Why can't I find invitations?

Now, I know I'm picky, but come on !!!!!!!!!

I've been searching for invitations for 2 months now. I know I'm early, but this is exactly why. I hate the traditonal invitations, and I knew it would take me forever to find the one, but now it's getting ridiculous. When I go to the bridal shops, and go through those huge books, everything looks so boring or traditional.

I don't want: flowers, lovebirds, bell, etc. . .
I want a contemporary, yet elegant invitation that is silver and white.
So I started internet shopping, this was fun, but now EVERYTIME I send away for a sample, it looks so different, and the paper is always cheap looking, which I can't see on the internet, of course.

Does anyone know where I can go look for high quality, contemporary, elegant invitations?

I had the same problem. I ruled out all those 'bridal books' almost as soon as I opened it. If I saw one more pearlized dove I thought I was going to puke!

My suggestion to you is to

a) take a trip to NYC and go to Kates Paperie. They have a bunch of books of some of the more contemporary invite designs including Claudia Calhoun, etc... They are definitely much more expensive but the paper quality and printing are top notch.

b) Even if you don't find something that is perfect, you are bound to get ideas that you can incorporate into your own design. You can have custom invites printed at a number of places in NY.

I didn't really love anything until I came up with my own design. To keep the costs down, I had www.gaddisdesign.com do the printing.

Someone on this site told me about this invitation place, from the picutes I LOVE THEM! I should be getting a sample anyday now so I will let you know how they are in person but you should check them out! Johanna's Wedding

I am having the EXACT problem. I went to gaddis.com and they are EXPENSIVE!!!! I mean I know I'm gonna pay alot for non-traditional invites but $800, NO!!!!!! I like Taraalisa's design but she hasn't emailed me yet. I'm still looking and if I find something i'll post.

I would check out www.lizarddesigns.com. It took me forever to find invitations and mine ended up being custom designed by Liz at Lizard Designs for no extra charge. They were amazing. One guest, who runs a printing company, thought I paid over $1000 for my invites when, in reality, I paid under $400. The quality of their materials is great. I would definitely check them out. If you don't see anything on their website, send them an email.

Thank you all, for giving me all these ideas. Now, I'm not so frantic anymore. I'm writing all of these down, and I'll let you know how I make out.

Dazzle in COram - an invitation woman who works out of her house. Forum me if you should have any questions. She is in the Coram area - absolutely fabulous - my invites were a little less then 500 - I'll try to post pics later!

i got mine @Proper Papers in Plainview. They have a ton of samples on the wall...mine are contemporary...long rectangle card...black script...champagne-like color around the end...but they have silver etc. they have so many styles...try them...

Liz at Lizard Designs was the most wonderful person to work with. She was patient and easy going and SO accomidating. The invites turned out amazing and they were so inexpensive! I would highly recommend them to anyone.

I'm also getting married on Sept. 20, 2003. I agree w/ Sonicstef Kate's Paperie has some great invitations, on the expensive side but I'm sure you can get some ideas.

I am also having the same problem! I didn't like any of the Birchcraft, Carlson, or Regency invites. I did some research and came across a company called Encore. They have beautiful, elegant invitations. They are a bit expensive but worth the extra $$. Check out their website Encore Invitations

I used Johanna's Wedding and she is just fabulous!! my invites were fantastic and even people sending in no responses commented on the invites...my cousin framed them for us and I love to look at them...I am so happy that I dealt with her...she will email you so quickly!!

I was also looking for something contemporary and colorful, and it took me a while ... I just got my invitations yesterday, and I am so happy! Yes I am early too, but I rather have lot of things accomplished than waiting for the last minute. Carlson Craft has nice options, but I suggest you to go and see them 'alive' in any shop that has them (Paryrus in Rooselvet Field Mall, for exe.) The link I am sending you is about a company that has the best deal in this line (they also have other lines too), I saved almost $100 of what I was going to spend here in the same cards. They are very quick, and they also will fax you the proofs.
