Re: why can they never get it right?????

People used to always get my name wrong and add letters that weren't there. They are just dumb.
A co-worker you've been working with for years?
They are either being a jerk on purpose or are just really dumb.

Re: why can they never get it right?????

That happens to me all the time! The kicker - when I tell them the correct pronounciation, they usually say 'Oh, just like its spelled'

Re: why can they never get it right?????

Actually, this is a funny story. We got engaged in Florida, and when we were there we visited with my FH's 100 year old grandmother. When we met her, she asked me if there is any nickname that I liked to be called. I said 'Jess.' She thought I said 'Jeff' and kept calling me Jeff all night!! I'm not making this up, I swear! But she was 100, so I got to cut her some slack!

Re: why can they never get it right?????

No one ever says my last name correctly. After 33 years I have given up correcting people and answer to anything that sounds remotely close. My FI's last name is sooooo simple...like Smith or Jones and people even pronouce his wrong. I guess they think the word is too simple so they aways add extra sylables. Oh well lol.

Hahahaha - it sounds as if you're living my life!! My real name is Marni - I can't even tell you how BUTCHERED it gets - I've been called anything and everything from Barney, to Marci, to Marley then Marina. It's scary!!!

Gimme a break - just listen to me pronounce it for one second and you should be able to get it right!!!!!

Re: why can they never get it right?????

Here's a good one : ).....A senior executive on my floor has been calling me Robin for about 2 years now. I have no idea why and I have politelty corrected him more than once. I also have a HUGE nameplate at my office that says Karen XXXXXX. Go figure. At least I know if 'Robin' does something wrong I won't get into trouble hehe

Re: why can they never get it right?????

Deirdre

1) I am guilty, I have spelt your name wrong a couple of times

2) People spell my name wrong all the time!!

3) When I was in school, the subs would always look towards the boys because my name was still considered a boys name. 5 years later, lot more of us

4) I have been at my school for 7 years and I still have a secretary that cannot say my name, she introduces me incorrectly ALL THE TIME. What is she going to do in September when I have a new name. I figure by the time I retire she might learn it!

Re: why can they never get it right?????

I got called Michelle quite a few times. my last name thats a whole other story. People add letters, forget letters, pronounce it wrong, or sometimes just call me by my first name because they arent going to even attempt to say my last name.

Re: why can they never get it right?????

I have a huge greek last name (13 letters) and you don't even want to know how many times I've heard 'well miss dfljlsjf.... I mean miss sdljifsdjf.... No ms sdfijsdoifjsdf... Can I just call you Miss Olga?' or they totally butcher it and then ask 'did I get it right???' Yeah, sure you did

I love that my name is defining factor of me so I deal with it

Re: why can they never get it right?????

I know exactly how you feel. My last name is NOT difficult at all and is only 6 letters. I have 2 As in my last name and people ALWAYS pronounce one of the As as an I. HOW THE HELL DO YOU GET AN I WHEN IT'S AN A

I also get a lot of people who spell my first name with 2 Ls. But I don't mind that b/c in Spanish when you pronounce it, it's one L. But in English, it's pronounced with 2 Ls. Also Italian people call me 'Marchela' and Greek people call me 'Markela'.

Re: why can they never get it right?????

People always get my first name mixed up. I'm Julianne, but they want to call me Jillian, Julia, Julie, Juliana, etc. Then when they know my name, they spell it wrong. I didn't think it was very hard!

Re: why can they never get it right?????

My boss- SVP- spells my last name wrong on a daily basis. Plus, the way she spells it, is the same way she pronounces it, WRONG! I started a file in my draw of all the e-mails w/ her errors (mind you, she also cc:s the entire agency) it makes me happy.

Most people will not try to pronounce my last name. So, I just jump in and help them out- it sounds like your sneezing. It's a conversation piece. I can't wait to change it.

Olgaki- our Greek friends have given me a new Greek last name- it's basically adding a itis on the end- lol!!! I don't dare try most of my Greek friends. Love em, but- it's all 'Greek' to me.
