I ordered my Alvina Valenta gown from Bridal Reflections in Carle Place. I ordered it in Ivory. Apparently, they said that the manufacturers are no longer giving swatches of fabric.
Has anyone else encountered this?

i don't think i can get one either. I was going to ask so i could have my veil made but i vaguely remember the saleswoman saying i couldn't get a swatch from casablanca so i haven't asked.
for the record i looooove alvina valenta dresses.
Thank you!!! I tried on so many dresses and then i tried on this one and I was like
I had never heard of the designer until I started I went to Bridal Reflections.
Casablanca is beautiful as well!!!!
the first dress i ever tried on was alvina - at wedding salon. being the anti-bride that i am i talked myself out of it because i knew my mother was going to buy my dress and I didn't want her to spend tons of money - even though she did it for my sisters and they were all oohing and ahhing over this dress on me. In retrospect, I should have gone with that and just paid the difference (i was pretty sure at the time she wouldn't let me) b/c I like my dress but don't love it. though I really think once it's all put together with the veil and shoes I'll get the effect I'm going for.
why do you need a swatch? You already have a veil right? I took some closeups of the lace on my dress.... maybe you could do something like that. Though I understand it's frustrating.
LOL Anti-Bride. You seem like the furthest thing from an antibride ever.
You will totally get the affect of the 'look' you're going for. The dress I was in love with was a Monique Lhuillier with pick up skirt. I was obsessed and I also dreamed of having a ML dress because she is a filipina as well. Which is why I am having my veil from the Philippines because I wanted to incorporate my heritage somehow.
Maybe I really don't need a swatch. I just wanted to see how it matches with my current veil and make sure it's not TOTALLY different shades of ivory.... As far as shoes are concerned, I am most likely wearing a pair of olive green satin open toes!!
too funny - you sound like me. i only wanted to try on italian sounding designers!
i'm still on a mad hunt for shoes - really hard because of how they ordered my dress; i thought they ordered me extra length but they measured hollow to hem or whatever and i can only wear shoes lower than 3 inches which totally stinks because my sister got me these gorgeous designer shoes that are gold and cream and I can't wear them! Yesterday i went to saks, bloomies, and stuart weitzman with no luck - the closest think i could find were gold christian diors that were like 2 inches but $700 and for that price I needed to love them lot more. But I really wasn't going for ivory dyables either. good luck.

Bridal Reflection was able to give me a sample swatch of my dress but my dress is a James Clifford. I really think it has to do with the designer not the bridal salon.
Yeah my first dress was a Romona Keveza and i was able to get a swatch...but i hadn't asked yet for this new dress.

Barneys also has an IMMENSE selection and when they have their shoe sales, they are incredible. Also, try and check out Bergdorf Goodman when you're in NYC.

I ordered my Alvina Valenta gown from Bridal Reflections in Carle Place. I ordered it in Ivory. Apparently, they said that the manufacturers are no longer giving swatches of fabric.
Has anyone else encountered this?
funny you mentioned this, I had the same problem.
also, I was in Carle place yesterday and when my friend and i stopped at McD's for a drink I saw the bridal store and we went in. I never even knew it was there!!!
Even though we were just wandering, the ladies were very helpful and gave us just enough space to browse and also ask questions. They have a LOT of different designers to choose from, I was really impressed. Had I not already ordered my dress I would have totally considered that place.
back to my point, swatches! My bridal shop ordered me a swatch book with all the colors and fabrics. I paid 15$ for it!! try that......

Yes, it's totally hidden in the back! I never knew it existed either till I started looking around for bridal shops near my parent's house. I had an amazing lady who was so patient and so sweet. We went to another bridal shop that was so snobby asked me what my budget was in front of my FMIL and then proceeded to knock off my aunt's glasses with a dress and didn't apologize.
Anyway, you're lucky you got the swawtch book! I even with to Alvina Valenta's office and they wouldn't give it to me!

Re: Why can't I get a swatch of my dress?
Some of these bridal stores lie about not being able to get swatches because they are lazy to request them. Is there a number you can call the manufacturer and see if that is their policy.
When I first started looking for BM dresses I tried to get a swatch of a BM dress from a shop in Bklyn and they told me they couldnt give it to me unless I ordered the dress first. Only to call the manufacturer and find out it was a lie.
I recently requested a swatch of my Maggie gown and my bridal shop got it for me

Re: Why can't I get a swatch of my dress?
I went to see my dress for the first time yesterday and found out that the bottom seam is sewed shut, so they can't give me a sample until they alter it from the waist. That won't be until mid-May : (

I couldn't get a swatch either, bit since my bag & my shawl was the same material I took those as my 'swatch'
