Why can't I take a day off in peace?

I took off today because I'm going to a wedding at 3 in Long Island. Also, since FH works overtime on his days off, we would have to wait until the week of the wedding for our marriage license. Instead we are doing this today.

The school secretary is calling and harrassing me leaving messages and emails asking why I am out. First of all, legally they do not have to know. Second of all, it is an invasion of privacy. But, this is the way my principal is. They have also done this when I had strep throat with 104 fever, harrassing me!

thats wrong..if u say your taking a personal day it should be left at that...

You should call your union reps. What does your contract say? I know at my school we have had problems with this. Our prinicpal will also ask for a dr's note. In our district, they can ask for one only if they can show that there has been a history of abuse regarding sick days. I would call your union reps and make them aware of the situation. They need to be in that office telling reminding your principal that you have a right to your sick days and to stop the phone calls.
