We are putting an inground pool, I dont want it, and i am soooooo scared of something like this happening to us. We have a 2 year old next door, and a newborn and 6 month old across the street.
With all these pool deaths lately, im just sooo soooo scared of this happening.
a locked gate or a seperate locked fence around the pool should be fine. We have an above ground pool and we have little kids on our block as well as my niece and nephew who are there every other weekend. We have a locked entrance to the pool.

in response to the original post, I'm sure it was for her own safety. An 11 year old is not old enough to 'fend for themselves' but they are old enough to know not to go in the pool if they cant swim and all that jazz. they don't need the same amount of supervision.
I had a friend growing up who's sister was taken out of their home due to negligence but bc my friend was 12 they let him stay.

that really doesn't make any sense to me, I know it's probably true but it just seems wrong....

oh, it's screwed up, definitely. There were a lot of problems because of it. His dad always used to say stupid crap like 'I wish they'd taken YOU away instead' i know there were other issues going on with his sister as well... but in the end they used 'neglect' as the legal reason for removing her.
i think they should have taken both of them away b.c living with that man totally screwed up my friend.

thats horrible...they may be concerned that the 11 year old did something....but how the hell do you say ' we were busy doing our own things while it happend.?????
My guess is that answer is why they have the baby!! I mean no the 11 year old is not old enough to take care of himself,, but he most likely knows right from wrong and how to be safe!

When Im watching my niece, I dont have time to do 'my own thing' Im constantly watching her and shes 6! It was negligence but people make mistakes and unfortunately this one was a horrible one.
