Why do I keep hearing about BUGS in the Caribbean?
Can someone please reassure me that the bugs aren't so bad on the islands of the Caribbean? I'm trying to book my HM and am feeling skeeved by many of the reviews I'm encountering. Any thoughts?

I've been to Aruba and Jamaica and don't remember bugs, so I guess if they are there, it wasn't enough of a problem to remember.
Sometimes the people who write those reviews are the same types of people who complain about anything everything. Like when you go to the FAMILY mass at church and they give skunk eyes to people's kids.

just mosquitos . . they'll bite you. .and some other weird creatures out there, they wont bother you at all. .
it s not to bad, but bring repellent

sorry to be crashing on your board but ive been to the caribbean for work and leisure a lot. bugs are there for sure. depending on the time of year and where you go the bugs could be in high quantity but just bring big spray (keep in in your bag where ever you go) and you'll be fine. my fh and i are going to negril for our HM and many reviews mentioned bugs but we're not gonna let that stop us.

It's all about the time of year. There are bugs everywhere though, no matter what. Just bring repellent with you or sunblock with bug repellent and you'll be fine.

yeah and to add... no smelly lotions, or perfumes.. and even the floral shampoo attracts bugs.
so u can bug spray but the shampoo may still attract them to ur head...
again be careful, mindful and u will have a blast!

awww... don't be discouraged... i just came back and i dont know if my post prompted u to write this but i mentioned the bugs... prob because i didn't expect them myself.. and was a little taken aback by them.. it wasn't as if bugs were crawling on me at dinner or in the bed... but i did see them and if u'r scared of bugs *some people r.. and some like me just are ewww'ed by them but will kill it and keep going..* then u should know... and in all honesty as long as its not a mosquito.. its not so bad..imo..
go head to the carribean and have a blast!!!

I lived in the Carribean for 3 years....there are a lot of bugs (especially mosquitos), but it's definitely not that bad...just wear repellent and you'll be fine :)

Aruba's got mosquitos. The restaurant at our resort gave us bug spray...they had an outdoor seating area next to a 'lake' and when we went for sunset dinner: we got eaten alive. During the day, it's no bother at all.
Costa rica has the most bugs I've seen...but that's not really carribean. HUGE bugs...I took pictures for proof. But, we were never bitten.
My advice: whenever I travel, I bring my Deep woods OFF (with DEET)....just in case.

I've read that its mostly just mosquitos, and it really depends on the time of you year you are in the caribbean. it worse around the summer seasons, but just bring bug spray and you should be fine. Its worse around places with more vegetation, but around the resorts you should be fine during they daytime.

We went to St Lucia for our Honeymoon in June. We definitely heard the bugs at night, but didn't see or feel a single bug during the day.

I've been to Cancun, Mexico and the Bahamas and I don't remember any bugs at all. I think its only if you go inland and stay in the jungle. My friend went to Costa Rica and stayed in one of those Eco-Resorts. They had tons of bugs including a tarantula in her shoe! I stayed at the beach and was fine.
