Has anyone else had this experience...when you tell someone your wedding date (someone who isnt a vendor) they are like wow boy do you have time...a little over anxious arent you (or something else that means why are you planning already?)

Yeah and I hate when they say oooooooh why are you waiting so long...I feel like saying would you like to pay for the wedding and buy me a house...no..so shut the hell up! Some people are so rude. I swear that annoys me. It is no ones business why I we are getting married in 2010!

I hate it so much!!!! Everyone looks at me like I have 10 heads.
Sorry if I want EVERYTHING perfect and get all the vendors I want and not have to settle on anything!

YES! My boss just did that to me the other day, i was like, no, really, apparently you need a lot of time to plan this stuff if you don't want to pay a fortune or miss out on things you want. When all else fails, i just use my 'well, i am planning from another state, so i need more time' excuse, that usually shuts them up!

i've gotten that a lot already. people dont realize the amount of time/work/research/money that goes into weddings. some halls are booked 2 years in advance. my response to these kinds of comments are..'yeah, but time goes by fast'

Yea i think unless you are recently married, getting married, or broke we all know why we are planning ahead. We are waiting due to moeny reason and i have not probtelling people but as my FH says it sounds far away but it's only a year a half away thats not long at all. Believe it or not the date i need for photographer for 2010 was almost booked. All kinds of people make the world go round, it's so much less stressful like this and it's helping with budgeting.

yeah ALL THE TIME... especially vendors.. i try to play it off like i know its a really long time from now.. like 'whens the wedding?' oooooo not until 2010.. like i know im crazy for looking for vendors but im really NOT!!! its almost embarrassing at this point..
this is LONG ISLAND.. weddings and brides are crazy, we know we are.. and YES we DO BOOK TWO YEARS IN ADVANCE!!!!

all the time! then I follow up by saying...you know thats only 1 yr 3months away. I think 2010 sounds so far away but in reality its really not, after the holidays are over this year, time is going to fly for all of us!

i do the same thing when calling up vendors!!!! im like 'ummm not until 2010.....' but then they reassure me that its not too early, alot of 2010 brides have booked already...
But yeah i do get the 'why so far away' thing and i just tell them this way we can save up financially for it! weddings are expensive! there is no way we can pay for our wedding AND a place to live, if i were to have it a year earlier.

I'm thankful for the people who stop and think for a minute and then say 'Oh, thats really not that far away when you think about it.'
It's less than 2 years. Many people are engaged for over a year. Whats it to anyone else if I book now?

I get that a lot. But I am so glad I gave myself a lot of time. Already I have found a DJ who is already booked for my date (crazy huh?).
Besides you need time to research your vendors and save up money. I think giving yourself 1 1/2 to 2 years is perfectly normal.
My FMIL calling it 'stalling' and that if we were serious about getting married we would just do it. *rolls eyes* But she's also pissed off that we have been engaged for a whole year and didn't start looking into it or planning the wedding until a few months ago. We were just not as financially ready as we thought we were.
My mom thought I was crazy for the longest, but now she sees everything that I have to do & pay for so she gets it now.
