think that just because they are getting married, everyone is going to give them things for nothing/discount just because they are a bride?
I say this because of another post I read where brides where complaining about the business practices of dress salons.
Yes, it is supposed to be the happiest time of our lives, but to all of the vendors, it is business as usual. Just like buying a car, you need to do your friggin homework, and not expect vendors to give you the best prices just because you are a glowing bride to be!!!!!
Boo hoo, so they ripped the tags out of the dresses, big deal. Be smarter than them and find the damn thing yourself. No one's going to tell you, oh, so and so has the dress cheaper, you should go there!!!
Everyone has a right to make $$$, just because we are on the spending end of it, it doesn't make it different than anything else.
We all as brides need to grow up and find the deals ourselves!!!!!! I know many (and myself included) who find and negotiate better prices, it can be done, just invest a little time, and if you don't want to, then you must pay.
Sorry for the rant, just needed to get that off my chest.

Re: Why do some brides (rant)
i agree - but i want to add that some brides feel like they are the only ones to ever get married and everyone needs to cater to them.
as far as the $$ off thing, i think its common for vendors to give a slight discount, but i wouldn't walk into a place and act like i deserved half price just because i was getting married

Amen!!! I agree!!
As for the tags being ripped out...when I found my gown it was at one of those stores...I went home that night and searched the designers sites (they said 'Oh it's this designer or that designer') and found nothing, then hit my (what seems like) endless supply of bridal mags and found it! Do a little leg work honey!

Re: Why do some brides (rant)
I think that for a lot of people it just becomes frustrating. It seems that as soon as you mention the word 'wedding' everything doubles in price. It gets really old, really quickly.
Yes, you should try and negociate and research. That is the only way to get the best deals. It is time consuming, but so worth it!!!! I think some people are just not very resourceful.
Now, my question is..... if it is illegal to remove the tag on a mattress or pillow why is it okay to remove the tag from a dress?

I can't answer your mattress question, but it's just such a shame how people think they should be bowed down to because they are getting married.....so what?
Free enterprise allows anyone in their own business to charge whatever they want. And it is up to the consumer to see to it that they don't get ripped off. And that goes for any product, whether is be a car, an air conditioner or a wedding dress!

It IS illegal. The shop I actually bought my dress at told me that it is illegal and if shops that rips tags out get audited, they get fined. It's a risk they take.

The people that act that way are probably that way all of the time. It is a shame that some people seem to feel they are entitled to special treatment.

Yeah, I thought that it might be. I think that free enterprise is great, but be far about it.

Re: Why do some brides (rant)
See I don't expect anyone to give me anything for cheaper, but I DO get angry when I see things OBVIOIUSLY marked up just because it is wedding. Like Limos for 3 hr rental is SO much cheaper than a wedding limo, etc. Sometimes I feel like as soon as I tell a place that I am getting married they jack up the price! The dress thing I don't mind though. If they want to jack up the price and rip out the tags, so what? Any bride who does her homework will shop around a bit anyway (and with the internet it isn't too tricky to find dresses)!

Re: Why do some brides (rant)
I don't think brides want things for free - they just don't want to get ripped off or screwed!
As for ripping the tag out of the dress, sorry but that is wrong. That is like going to buy a car but not being allowed to know who makes it until after the fact. THIS IS RIDICULOUS! My dress cost $5,000 and I would not have bought it unless I knew who the designer was ahead of time. Sorry and at those prices I shouldn't have to 'investigate' to see who makes IT!

She wasn't expecting to get something for nothing, she just wanted to know the maker of her gown. What bride doesn't want to know that? Who wouldn't be Po'd after they wasted an hour and a half?
She WAS doing her homework by going there in the first place. She invested an hour and a half and got nothing. Ripping tags off of gowns is a shady practice.
Boo-hoo? Thats just rude.
Be smarter than them and find the damn thing yourself.
Remember this when YOU need help from the girls on this site.

Actually, she got some very good suggestions on where to look.

Re: Why do some brides (rant)
Isnt that what BHB is for? To get help from other brides to be who are going through the wedding process.
I appreciate that for vendors its business as usual and they need to make a living but I also know that certain businesses do try to exploit you when you mention the word wedding.
Also some people are just not that good at researching and some are.
I do not post that often due to work restrictions but anytime I have come on here and asked a question I have gotten excellent feedback and solutions....
And I do think ripping tags out of dresses is completely out of order.
As for 'No one is going to tell you where to get the dress cheaper' I can just say that I never heard of Pearls Place, Net Bride, Gown finder etc before finding LI weddings.
Just my two cents.

Why didnt you post this on her thread or at least on BHB instead of coming over to NW R to rant? Just curious.

Re: Why do some brides (rant)
When I said no one's going to tell you where to go, I MEANT the people that work in the stores, not LIW brides!
I always try to give advice, so if you want to investigate my posts, you will find that to be true.
I have never been to a salon where I wasn't told the designer of a dress I wanted. And if I was, and was determined to find out whos it was, it would DO MY HOMEWORK!
And as far as coming on tho this board to rant, I do not have any bridal questions, I am keeping to the NWR topic! And I DID go back and forth with the bride on BHB!
Brooklyn, whose attacking who now? If I need help, I know where I can get it, I guess.

Re: Why do some brides (rant)
from what i've read, no one's attacking you here. it's just a matter of opinion just like your initial post. you can't have everyone agree with you or else it would be boring.
and this topic is the result a certain bride-to-be's thread from BHB.. i could ask 'why you didn't post on her thread?' and also you could be 'helping' a bride by posting a new thread letting her know one should get of their a5s and dig it up themselves...?
in any case, this forum is here to help one another in the process of having a wedding, baby, house, clothes, etx. cheer up, girl. nothing to bicker over.

Re: Why do some brides (rant)
Not for nothing, but it IS against the law to cut tags out. I understand your point of view that they are just trying to do business, but this isnt the correct way to do it. Cutting tags is VERY shady and that should be a bride's first hint to run to the door. As for the boohoo comment, JMHO but that was uncalled for. She's a newbie and I can only speak for myself when I say that when I first signed up here I didnt know the first thing about wedding planning. She's just looking for help, not a lesson about business ethics.

Re: Why do some brides (rant)
The fact is that is illegal to do so and it shouldn't be done. that's no way of conducting a business and expecting that people are going to buy from you.
