Why do we talk so loud when we are on the phone?

Did you ever notice that? My DH talks so loud when one of his friends call. We are even worse when we are on the cell phone.

DH does this too...I for one do not like anyone hearing my conversations...even if there is nothing to hide...just don't like to broadcast...

Mine does to!! It makes me nuts - I explain to him that he is using a phone and not yelling out the window

I should remind my DH that he is on the phone, and not yelling it down the block.

And when he whispers something, I hear it loud and clear.

On a regular phone there is a speaker that relays what you are saying to the earpiece so you can more easily hear what you're saying.

Cell phones don't have this function, that's why people tend to talk more loudly on cell phones - they can't tell how loud they are speaking. Of course some people are just loud (or hard of hearing).

We have one girl in our office (thankfully I no longer share an office with her) and she knows she talks loudly and practically brags about it. She's always saying 'I know I'm loud - that's just the way I am.' I can hear her conversations clearly, and I'm down the hallway 2 offices away
