Re: Why do we throw something?

I belive its an Italian tradition. It started when Italians would throw sweets at the bride and groom as symbol of prosperity. Of course getting pelted with Hershey Bars isnt everyone style so we switched to rice, rose petals, etc...

Re: Why do we throw something?

Though check with your church, because I'm not allowed to throw anything after the ceremony...

It's bubbles or nothing. Apparently, my church has been sued a lot lately.....

It actually is kind of funny....the only thing I'm allowed to do is walk down the aisle and I'm required to have a bouqet of flowers for the church as an offering.

But it is the church I grew up in and very pretty as well as old.

PS: I think the tradition is way older than any of your relatives.

Re: Why do we throw something?

For those that cant throw anything - you may want to ask your church for an exception if you will pay to have it cleaned up. Thats what I did and it didnt cost very much.

I know this is terrible but if you really want to throw something, you can just do and it and worry about it later.

Re: Why do we throw something?

That would make for a good photo :D

Usually the priest doesnt come outside for the receiving line anyway so he wouldnt see it until it was too late anywho. (insert devil ears now)

Re: Why do we throw something?

I remember reading many years ago about some Wildlife protection people protesting rice being thrown that birds eat it and die, that is bull. Then people started throwing bird seed that was when people ended up on their butts on the church steps and sued. Some churchs don't allow flash photography, it is really up to the head Priest, my friend was married in a church in NJ that didn't allow anything thrown or any flash photography, the priest even announced it prior to the ceremony....meanie...I wanted to throw a mud pie at him he was sooooo stiff. He also told my freind if she did start her wedding on time that she would not get half of her deposit for the church back--$500, talk about Christian values, huh.
