Why dosen't she GET IT????

FH and I told our parents that WE would be doing the table seatings. My Mom goes, on her own, and makes the seating arrangments for our family that SHE wants. I said I would use this is a 'suggestion'. I told her that we can't leave it the way she has it cause she only put 9 people at some of the tables...we need 12!!! So she just says to me that she'd 'prefer' that I use HER seating chart b/c she dosent want some family getting split up.

Lets start over..YOU DON'T GET TO CHOSE WHERE PEOPLE SIT!!!! FH AND I WILL DO IT!!!!

Wow! That is frustrating! I know it is hard but just try to stick to your guns and remind them that it is your wedding! Hang in there.

i feel your pain!!! my mom pulled the same crap...but my mom and dad paid for our hall so i couldnt really fight with them on it. we compromised, i used her list as a 'guide' but added a few more people to the tables.

Seating chart is one of the toughest aspects of the whole thing! Ask yourself this: if you make changes to what was proposed, will your mom notice? Only you and FH know them well enough to answer that.

Table seating is so not fun! Ultimately, it is your choice where to sit your guests!!! Good luck!

I can see why you are so frustrated. Hang in there and explain to her that it has to change but you will do your best not to split anybody up. People at weddings understand these things, seating arrangements can never be perfect!

This is just a suggestion but is it that bad to have 9 people at a table instead of 12? They could have more room to sit and eat? It won't look sparse..9 people at a 12 person table is ok.

It may mean that you have more tables than you wanted and that could mean another centerpiece, menu..etc..but is that so bad?

I'm just trying to point out that maybe this is a blessing in disguise. Seating is one of the hardest things to do and your mom did your side. Maybe it's not so bad?

Seating is the hardest thing to do, so if it is done for you and you don't totally hate it....can you leave it?

DH & I were determined to do our own seating with only giving our parents the options of who they wanted to sit at their table. Well it didn't happen that way. My Mom and DH Dad both freaked out about the table seating saying it had to be a certain way.

At first I was really upset, it was OUR wedding and we were paying for the wedding our selves. Then DH & I thought about it and seating really was a pain in the A*S*S to do. At this point in the planning for us, it just didn't seem worth arguing with both sets of parents about it or each other and we just let our parent's do the seating.

We also looked at it as if any one had a problem or comment about where they were seated we could send them to talk to the parent's about it. If there was soemthing I totally hated I would have spoken to them about it and changed it.

Yep, that's what I was thinking.
