I opted not to have 1, cuz i honestly dont see the reason for it. To me its just an added expense (Flowers, BP gifts, Limo ect).
I have 2 MOH's only, My bestfriend and Sister, but i also didnt want to make people buy dresses that were not in their budgets and who prob dont want to be a BM but say yes cuz they feel bad.

Re: Why have a BP
Well, I wanted these people to be there to stand by my side on what is one of the most important days of my life, but yeah, I think I should've also opted out.

Re: Why have a BP
I did it mostly because FH wanted to have groomsmen and I wanted to honor the same ladies that I stood as a bridesmaid for.

Re: Why have a BP
I was going to do the same as you and only have my matron of honor and maid of honor, but FH had more people that the HAD to have in it, so we are having a big BP. For me, it was either have 2 or expand to 7... lol. But it is a nice way to have the people close to you be involved in the wedding.

Yea - I kinda agree, you do actually have a 'bridal party' but just on the smaller side. But it really is just a matter of preference.
If I had sisters - I would have had a smaller BP but I am an only child so my friends are really my 'sisters' and of course my cousin and FSIL.
I look back on some of my greatest memories and the women in my BP are in them - so I couldn't imagine creating another great memory and not having them there - but thats just me.

Re: Why have a BP
Oh sorry. its not a Large BP. its more like the Matron of Honor and Maid of honor... Also, my FH will be 38 by the wedding most of his friends have been married for years and have children, so he said he felt a little funny having them in even though they were his Best friends..
so our Bridal party consist of 2 girls and 1 guy.. I should of rephrased the question to Larger BP... like 6+ BM and GM.
Just wanted to know other peoples opinions as to why... Since i kept asking myself why do i need one Vs why not just eliminate it.
So like in my earlier post, my reason was more eliminate cost and i didn't have a good reason for justifying it.. and that was a way for me.

Re: Why have a BP
Mine is a family tradition. We're having 9 GM and 9 BMs. I was in three of my cousin's weddings and we were all raised very close to each other - closer than most peopel are with their siblings. It just seemed right to handle it that way. FH feels the same way about his sister and cousins that are in the BP.

Re: Why have a BP
I'm not having a BP, only a Best Man and a Matron of Honor (she's my godmother). FH and I have no siblings so even if I wanted a BP, I would have to reach out to friends and extended family members for a BP and honestly, I just didn't want to deal w/ the hassle and extra budgeting involved to pay for the added expenses.
I am closer to agreeing w/ FH that maybe we should just scrap the whole wedding and just get married at City Hall, then do dinner w/ our parents and close friends in a VIP room at some restaurant. I just feel so aggravated with all the stress wedding plan seems to entail!

Re: Why have a BP
We're having a small BP (1 MOH, 2 Bridesmaids, 1 BM, 2 GM)...I wanted to honor the people who mean the most to me, but didn't want a big thing.

Re: Why have a BP
I still consider myself having a BP even though i only have (1) bm & (1) MOH (on FH side one best man & groomsman)
I just don't have that many females that i'm THAT close to, to put in my BP-i'm happy with the 2 i've asked.

Re: Why have a BP
I htink it's a matter of choice. I've been in about 6 weddings but I'm only have 1 MOH and 3 BM's. I want to have friends by myside as support because I love all of them and I'm going to need it that day

Re: Why have a BP
I also have a small one. One MOH, one BM on my side and a BM and GM for FH.
I chose to keep it small because I don't need the added drama and irritations that a large BP can bring. I like to keep it simple, and I want to be able to look back in 20 years at the photos and still have those people present in my life.

Re: Why have a BP
I couldn't imagine my 3 best girlfriends just being regular guests at the wedding, wearing regular guest attire, sitting there like everyone else. I truly wanted them to be by my side, and to have a distinction when I look out at everyone.

Re: Why have a BP
I had one because my DH threw a fit when I said I only wanted a MOH and BM. He wanted all of his siblings in the BP. He has 2 brothers and two sisters. SO we ended up doing siblings and their spouses and our best friends.

Re: Why have a BP
At first I wanted it because it was traditional. But I've been a BM a couple of times and it was a lot of fun! I really want my close friends around me that morning, keeping me calm, happy, and distracted! I don't expect a lot of my BM's, but I feel that it is a way to honor those people who are helping you. Mine grew from 4 to 5 this weekend!
