Why I HATE Christmas in NYC! (VENT, in case you didn't get it from the title)

I know that tourists aid the economy and a re very beneficial to NYC, but I hate it that there are so many of them here around the Holiday season! HATE IT!

I work in Rockefeller center and these days it takes me 20 minutes to walk 2 blocks!

They all walk around with their eyes up in the air, barely moving, stoping in the middle of the street, making groups and discussing things right in the middle of 6th Avenue. The all come here with like 20 kids who drag their feet and look at every window diplay in sight!

Of course, the vendors take total advantage of those out of town nincompoops! Just now I was trying to make my way back to the office and there was 3 juvenile delinquents dressed in Santa suites jumping and twirling to Christmas music and collecting money, and all the tourists are standing there in awe COMPLITELLY blocking 6th avenue between 47th and 46th streets!

I can’t wait for the season to be over and all the tourists to GO HOME!

soo funny you mention TRL... I work at MTV and it is HELL when one of the boybands are here. My window is right above the studio and as soon as 5pm hits all you hear is screaming! you can hear it as high as the floors on the 50s!!

I used to live on 49th btwn 6th and 7th. It was like mergeing into traffic whenever I left my building. OHHH and I don't even want to talk about New Year's Eve.

There they go walking and acting normal and then BAMB oh lookie there.. lights.. with words.. ooh... stare, stare, stumble stop.. look its a news ticker in red. So instead of moving closer if they REALLY wanna read, they just stop where they are mindless to the clogs of people to read and have the NERVE to look pissed when I walk into them.

the lights with words are up on the building where I work! dont' even get me started!

Yeah I think you mentioned the Metro Cafe.. you know I've never been there? I finally figured out where it is because I have Physical Therapy at NYSC

A friend and I were talking about this during lunch today. We hate going out during the holidays too (it's the worst time of year) but it's also bad the rest of the year too because it just seems that the city is packed with tourists all the time (I also work in the Times Square area)...

I'm sorry but MTV should be fined and made to cover their windows, on a good day there is a cop on the sidewalk trying to keep people moving, on a bad day forget it. I walk in the street right down broadway, its either risk getting hit by a car or get trapped amongst the idiots and go ape **** on someone!

I also work near Rockefeller Center (6th ave and 52nd st) and I totally know how you feel.

And they're not even nice if you ask them to move. I say 'excuse me please' to someone outide St. Patrick's and she turns and says 'you'll have to wait'. Oh I was livid.

I missed my train that day because of her

I can't wait for January 5th!!!!!!!! Normalcy!!!

I used to work on 57th st...and would walk on 6th avenue to avoid the times square crowd...

you know its bad when 6th ave is crowded with tourists

Radio City Christmas Spectacular - that's why 6th is packed.

I was in NYC yesterday just to see the tree, went into St. Pat's and then went to the wax museum and then had lunch. We got in at 8:30am and was home by 2:30pm. We don't mess around. But everyone walk soooo slow. 2 speeds, slow and stop. I didn't think it was as busy as I thought it was going to be.

But I have to complain about a lady at the wax museum. She had 2 girls and while we were waiting on line, her daughters had to touch EVERYTHING!!!! They were playing with the light bulbs on the tree, pulling the skirt of snow and throwing it on the tree. Taking the balls off of it and putting them back on. Then they were practically carving their fingernails in Robin Williams. Finally one of the workers told the kids not to play with the statue. But they STILL played with it. If my brother and I left my mom's side we always thought we were going to have to face the wrath of the wooden spoon and paddle.
