Why I HATE Christmas in NYC! (VENT, in case you didn't get it from the title)
I know that tourists aid the economy and a re very beneficial to NYC, but I hate it that there are so many of them here around the Holiday season! HATE IT!
I work in Rockefeller center and these days it takes me 20 minutes to walk 2 blocks!
They all walk around with their eyes up in the air, barely moving, stoping in the middle of the street, making groups and discussing things right in the middle of 6th Avenue. The all come here with like 20 kids who drag their feet and look at every window diplay in sight!
Of course, the vendors take total advantage of those out of town nincompoops! Just now I was trying to make my way back to the office and there was 3 juvenile delinquents dressed in Santa suites jumping and twirling to Christmas music and collecting money, and all the tourists are standing there in awe COMPLITELLY blocking 6th avenue between 47th and 46th streets!
I can’t wait for the season to be over and all the tourists to GO HOME!
That’s it, I am done! Thank you for listening!

I am right there with you!! I used to work in the building right behind Saks. I HATED Christmas time the crowds were the WORST. and what I hated the most was not being able to go ANYWHERE for lunch where there wasn't a line out the door! Boy am I glad I work in Union Sq. now

I totally agree with you. I work right near you and I have the same problem. They walk so slow because they have all day but what they don't understand is that there are actual people that work in the city that have things to do and try to eat lunch in an hour.

I think the non-toruisty places of Manhattan are far & few between.
I think the tourists should get a guide book - step to the side, hold onto your kids, don't take up the whole sidewalk, etc.
The worst is the sample sale across from Penn Station - they have a guy dressed like the Grinch, two guys with placards on their backs using defence plays to get a hand bill to everyone walking up the street while there were two other guys moving around a big silver package with a Santa in it.

oooooooh don't even get me started!!!
Tourists make me so mad sometimes. But half the time I hate to say it but during lunch during this time of year it's the other NYers and all their bags that annoy me (you can tell, they are not the ones looking UP at everything - haha), yesterday walking on 5th I just wanted to kick anyone who came by me in the shin!!! But I held back of course!

I work in Times Square also and I hate it! Half the time I don't even go out for lunch b/c I don't want to deal with the crowds of people.
Has anyone else ever been behind someone who decides to let their 3 or 4 year old walk down the subway stairs during rush hour instead of carrying him/her? So stupid!!!

AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I used to work over by Rockefeller Center myself and I used to think that was the worst -- especially when the dinosaurs (that's what we called them) came out from the Christmas Show at Radio City!!! But now we moved over here to Times Square and IT'S HUNDRED TIME WORSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It takes me 20 minutes to go half a block!!! I swear to God, I'm walking single file, everyone is oohing and ahhing and heads are up their butt, and I want to scream and shout and push them!!!
God help me!! Tis the season and all, but get the heck out of my way buddy, I have a train to catch!!!

I hear you, bearsbabe! It's even worse when they're filming TRL or whatever that MTV show is and there are crowds of people stopping and staring up at the MTV studio.

They should make one side of the street for tourists...and the other side of the street for people who actually know where they are going!

this is hilarious!! LOL
I work between times sq and penn station and there is a funnel of tourists who file out of penn station and up 7th ave to times sq. for some reason, many of them feel it is necessary to drag their Samsonite hardcase luggage up 7th ave wherever they go. LEAVE IT AT THE HOTEL PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey.. that's right next to me. Im off 46th/6th.
I never leave the office for lunch. If I need to walk around I got to a different floor and catch up with other coworkers from different departments. I want a veiw? I go to the 35th floor cafeteria and look out a window.
I am a people person who hates people. I just LOVE those who walk without looking WHERE they're walking... just strolling along and as you just move to get out of their way they see you and bounce directly in the same direction you planned to move.
Wat is it with people deciding that making groups of 20 and all standing around the subway station enterance which already takes up half the sidewalk and talking about who wants what for lunch while now completely blocking both the enterance to the subway AN the sidewalk?
And those out by the McGraw-Hill building area really just don't make sense to me. There they go walking and acting normal and then BAMB oh lookie there.. lights.. with words.. ooh... stare, stare, stumble stop.. look its a news ticker in red. So instead of moving closer if they REALLY wanna read, they just stop where they are mindless to the clogs of people to read and have the NERVE to look pissed when I walk into them.
Lets NOT forget out Penn Station... I have this VERY large and VERY nasty brusie on my shin from some idiot with a rolling carry on who decided to turn in front of me while walking towards me as if he didnt see me and SWING his bag around behind him. I felt like I got hit my a baseball bat in the shin.. idiot.

Re: Why I HATE Christmas in NYC! (VENT, in case you didn't get it from the title)
aah, a topic close to my heart... Having worked in or by most of the 'touristy' areas of the city I CAN NOT stand this time of year!! and I hate when non-NYC working people say 'It must be so fun to work across from (insert tourist attraction)' Right now I'm by Grand Central which so far is the least crowded - I just can't stand tiny, narrow Lexington Avenue. Also, I was in Grand Central today and have you noticed how people don't hold doors anymore? I swear the guy in front of me contorted his body so he could get through and not hold it....
