why i LOVE mammamia ...
sorry so long but...... well i LOVE musicals. i'm a giant cheeseball. it really doesn't matter the musical, i'll love it. BUT this movie has a special place in my heart because it's part of my proposal story. so while i basically hate pierce brosnan and thought he ****** in the movie, ... i have to love the movie. because of my FH.
i was student teaching last summer for my masters and was very very busy every day. my FHs b-day was august 7th (actually the second to last day of student teaching) but that day i was getting my final observation, i was up to my eyeballs in prep work for the last day, etc etc... and really had no way to plan much of anything for his b-day, so i sheepishly asked if he could plan his b-day for me. he came up with just a quiet dinner and movie...or rather movie then dinner. the only movie that was playing at a time slot that worked with dinner reservations (and when i got home from work) was mamamia. i told him 'uh, it's your b-day, you don't want to see that.' he said, 'i don't care, i'll see it, i just wanna go on my b-day date with you'... so we went. during the movie, he got up a few times, once for the bathroom, once because his out-of-state brother called, and once for a soda... he came back with a bucket of soda and basically drank almost HALF (it was HUGE)... but i'm oblivious so i didn't think much of his nervous habits. WELL, at the end of the very LONG winded movie (i thought it was LONG) he said 'let's hurry so we make dinner on time' and as we walked out of the lobby, he and i were holding hands...he said 'hey, our rides here' and i looked out to see a limo. i laughed and was like 'oh cool' (thinking he was just joking, we kinda like that...) but as we continue to walk, he's slowly pulling my towards the limo and i said 'hey, your car's over there' and he said 'but, i said our ride's here.' and kept pulling me toward the limo. the whole time i'm saying outloud 'what are you doing? you don't know who's car this is. stop' etc... he grabs the door handle and i'm like, 'omg, you don't know who's in there. what are you doing?!' and he opens it and there are flowers on the seat and his suit jacket hanging in the doorway. and ...well long story short, he puts on his jacket, hands me the flowers (i still have no idea)... as he buttoned his suit jacket i thought saw his hands shaking and that i think, was my first clue. but i thought he was just excited to be surprising me or something. as i'm hugging the flowers in complete shock, he gets down on his knee, a crowd forms around us instantly, and he tells me how much he loves me, how i'm his best friend and he wants to have fun with me for the rest of our lives and will i marry him. . .
so when i think of mamamia, i think of his big brown puppydog eyes, looking up at me in the parking lot of a theater where we met 6 years ago, i think about his hands shaking and people clapping for us and the utter awe i felt on a summer night... and think about how he sat through that whole awful, cheesy movie for me... see, giant cheeseball. and while i'm not gonna rush out and buy the movie, i think i'll probably have to![]()
