Why is this a tradition....

Why is this a tradition....

To get your own set of toasting flutes and cake cutting stuff for the wedding day? Why dont people just use stuff from the hall?

Dont get me wrong, I already have my flutes and registered for the cake stuff, but I just wonder where this came from???

I'm using the ones from the RH. I'm never going to use them again

I was totally thinking about this today. I thought for a second that my hall didn't provide it b/c so many people are talking about getting their own. Personally, I think I'm just going to use theirs b/c I know me, and I'd forget my stuff there the day of!

I thinking that we might just use the RH's.

Screw tradition. I used the RH's cake cutting utensils. As far as the champagne glasses, I really fell in love with the Lenox Jubilee Pearls and figured it would be nice to use them on our anniversaries. We can always use them again. The cake cutting utensils on the other hand are just ridiculous to me though, youre gonna cut a slice for you and DH and thats it, never touch them again!

while i doubt that we will use the cake cutting stuff until our 25th wedding anniversary, its nice to have & since someone gave it to us, we're definately using it- my toasting flutes, I would love for our kids to use at their weddings

Some people might like to keep these items as heirlooms...

You're not going to use your headpiece and dress ever again, but you're not renting those!

I am hoping someone will buy them for me as a gift (I've dropped hints ). I have a cake server that was my grandma's and would like to have one from our wedding, engraved, to use when family comes over. As for the toasting flutes- registered for those too & hoping someone purchases... would like to have for special occasions as well in the future

I have no idea. I'm not getting toasting flutes or cake cutting stuff....we will just use the stuff provided by the hall. I'm sure I'd have no use for either after the wedding.

HAHA I agree. FIL's bought us the Swarovski Flutes as an engagement gift, so we'll be using those. The cake cutting utensils are just not worth it to me.

actually we bought my parents a cake cutting set for their anniversary and they use it every holiday, it comes in handy! lol we actually registered for (and got) the same exact set!

I think people do this so that they can have the cake cutter and toasting flutes that they actually used at their wedding, for years to come. On special occasions it can be reused and you can always say, 'This is what we used at our wedding'.

Or maybe for the sake of keeping them in a china cabinet on display, along with the fine china that will probably never or almost never be used lol

me too. some people want engraved ones that they can keep, it's sentimental. Not for me, but there are a lot of things i'm not doing.

I actually don't really know why... but IMO i think it might be that most people get the serving set engraved with their wedding date and names, so they save it as a momento, and the toasting flutes can be used yearly to celebrate an anniversary.

FH and I only bought the flutes, since we'll prob use them to toast our anniversary every year, but skipped the cake server, since I doubt we'll use it that often to serve cake.

Thats sweet! If I had one passed down to me Id love it but otherwise Im just not that sentimental. Plus, I feel like I have SO MANY other things from my wedding day that have sentimental value.

We have toasting flutes and that's it. If I received the cake cutting set as a gift I wouldn't use it on my wedding day. I would use it at home to cut cake though.

DH and I decided that once we got the flutes and cake set we would use it for each and every one of our anniversaries... otherwise we would have never gotten our own and just have used the RH.
