Why is this a tradition....

Original post by Jenn04

To get your own set of toasting flutes and cake cutting stuff for the wedding day? Why dont people just use stuff from the hall?

Dont get me wrong, I already have my flutes and registered for the cake stuff, but I just wonder where this came from???

I've registered for the cake cutting set because that always comes in handy, but I haven't registered for toasting flutes.

I have, however, registered for champagne flutes in our crystal stemware pattern, so maybe we can use those or the ones provided by the RH.

My MOH found a set of toasting flutes that were handpainted...if she gets them for us, fine,if not, no big deal...I just don't want to have extra things to store later on.

i have NO idea where this came from! but i am using the stuff from the hall. i didn`t want to register for stuff that would just lay in a draw somewhere. Although i secretly want the swarofski (sp??) flutes!!! ok maybe it`s not a secret but i didn`t register for them! lol

i got them because when i get a house i want them in my china closet, i think it will be a nice memory.

if you are not cheesy like me, i say you can skip them!

i am also going to use them for every anniversary!

i agree i am going to display them in my house and use them for our anniversary

i wasnt going to but or register for them and was set on using the stuff from the hall, but my mom went and bought them, so I didn't say anything.

i know alot of people toast with the same flutes on their anniversaries each year, but i dunno about the cake serving set

It is just a nice keepsake. If it is not someone's thing it just isn't.

I personally don't see it as a waste. I am more a traditionalist. I know I will use my toasting flutes and my cake set will probably get used everytime we have company over. And when its not being used it will be on display with the china.

I am however borrowing my unity candle set.

i never questioned why it was a tradition but yeah, i dont get it either actually....

i have 1 flute that i got at my prom and me n fh went to my prom together (we were together for only 3 months at the time) so i'd like to use that, but im in the process of trying to find an additional one to match...

cake-cutter... i wont buy .. i'll jus use RH's.... my parents cake cutter sits in the draw and collects dust... it never gets used or displayed LOL

I was adamant to not buy them, but we received them as gifts.
These days people do what they want, how they want, when they want.

The only thing that stays constant, IMO, is correctly addressing envelopes and writing thankyou cards.

Screw tradition. I used the RH's cake cutting utensils. As far as the champagne glasses, I really fell in love with the Lenox Jubilee Pearls and figured it would be nice to use them on our anniversaries. We can always use them again. The cake cutting utensils on the other hand are just ridiculous to me though, youre gonna cut a slice for you and DH and thats it, never touch them again!

HAHA I agree. FIL's bought us the Swarovski Flutes as an engagement gift, so we'll be using those. The cake cutting utensils are just not worth it to me.

DATE TWIN!!

Re: Why is this a tradition....

I was planning on using flutes I was given years ago as a present. I also have a cake cutter set that I somehow managed to acquire. I was just going to tie a ribbon on it I really didn't want to put out extra $$ or register for a new version of what I already had.

My cousin used her Mom and Dad's from their wedding. That was cool

Not sure why... probably because there will heopfuly other times in your marriage where you'll toast each other and cut a cake!

I received both of mine as gifts!

I was totally thinking about this today. I thought for a second that my hall didn't provide it b/c so many people are talking about getting their own. Personally, I think I'm just going to use theirs b/c I know me, and I'd forget my stuff there the day of!

Wow, I just assumed it wasn't included, guess I have some thinking to do!
