Im probably doing both. I think theyre fun and not to be taken too seriously. JMO!
I see so many girls on here talk about how adamant they are on NOT doing these things...just curious as to why? Are you just worried that its uncomfortable for guests?

Re: Why no bouquet toss/garter toss??
I'm probably not going to just because I don't want to. A friend of mine didn't because at a friend's wedding since she was engaged, they threw the garter at her fh and aimed the bouquet towards her but this drunk girl caught it first and then her fh had to dance with the girl and she was saying some really inappropriate stuff. lol

Re: Why no bouquet toss/garter toss??
haha thx for all of the interesting stories girls!! wow, some r scary. i def see why alot choose not too. we have quite a few younger single girls...i think my issue comes in with not having enough ppl from FHs side present...if we dont have enough it will just be all ppl from my side and EW, who wants to set up something leading to familial garter relations!! SCHKEEVY. sorry that was gross. point being, depending on our guests, we'll decide. but i think its kinda fun and dont think my guests will mind.
at weddings ive been to, it was never too akward bc it was always kind of 'set-up' for two ppl. or if someone didnt really want to be involved they just didnt try their hardest...while other girls dove like champs.
so some ppl mention having a twist..what kinda twist? share share.
i think anniversary dance is a great alternative.
also, i was so surprised that FH had never heard or seen it go down as i described to him. the last wedding he went to (while ago), he caught it and the guy just wears it around his arm..kinda like showing off that he caught it. weird? but maybe less akward than up a leg? dunno.

Re: Why no bouquet toss/garter toss??
we're not gonna do either. some of my friends are a little embarrassed to be the only single chicks left out of everyone, so i don't want to make anyone feel bad and FH is quite uncomfortable reaching under my dress in front of our entire families. so that's why we're not. but i still think it's fun :)

Re: Why no bouquet toss/garter toss??
We are not doing either for a lot of the same reasons. The majority of our guests will be married and the few single friends we do have made remarks at how much they hate being dragged up for the garter/bouquet toss. I took that as a hint to ditch it for my wedding. I've seen a lot of those get out of hand...not that I didn't laugh, but I've seen the girls who were getting the garter put on get upset by the guy pretty much feeling them up. I thought one girl was going to punch the guy once. She didn't even know him and his hands were all over the place. She jumped out of the chair and left. I always hated being dragged up there so that was just one more reason to not have it.

We may do the bouquet toss, but still not sure about that, but def. no garter toss. I don't know why I have such an issue with it, but I've always said no to that. Also, I don't want to make people have to get up in front of everyone if they don't want to.

Re: Why no bouquet toss/garter toss??
my reason for not maybe silly but its totally because i have chubby legs and don't need any of them peeking out from under my dress ... there is no need for anyone to see that lol

at one wedding I went to the twist they did was that when it was time for the garter catcher to put the garter on the girl, they sat him down instead, put blindfolds on him, and set him up like the girl was going to do something......but instead the groom kissed the guy on the cheek and then took the blindfolds off to see it was him.....it was pretty funny (moreso b/c the groom and the guy were friends, maybe not so much if its someone from the brides family!!
for the bouquet toss, I was thinking of having the DJ announce that it's not just for single girls but all women- and saying that we're dedicating it to those we've lost (my father, and both of our grandparents). I have to think about this more, b/c I'm not sure if that would be odd dedicating something that I'm tossing away!!!
If I decide to do the anniversary dance instead that might be nice b/c FH's parents celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary 2 weeks before our wedding!

Re: Why no bouquet toss/garter toss??
Most of my friends FLEE the room when the bouquet toss is announced. Suddenly, they all take up smoking.
As for the garter, I'm reminded of a story one of our (Roman Catholic) priests told at mass when I was a kid....he went to a family wedding and obviously, he's single, and who'da thunk it? There he is holding the garter..... I don't know if they made him put it on some woman and give it back or what, but he then proceeded to leave it in the front seat of his car, where it was promptly noticed the next morning by the two other priests and the rectory secretary.

Re: Why no bouquet toss/garter toss??
I am actually doing both the bouquet toss and garter toss. But the way we are doing it is kind of wrong in a way I guess. We're setting it up so that FH's brother (the BM) catches the garter and his girlfriend (she's one of my Bridesmaids) catches the bo-k. They will probably get engaged sometime near the end of this year or next year sometime anyway but we figured it would be cute and it would look great in all the pictures. We'll see what happens. At my cousin's wedding, they did it for her sister and her now husband and it was really cute.

Re: Why no bouquet toss/garter toss??
We're doing it- it may not have meaning but it's tradition. . .We're both young, I'm one of the first to get married- 99.9% of my friends are single...FH has a ton of single friends- and they'll all eat it up.
I think most parts of weddings are tacky in general- why not run with it?

Re: Why no bouquet toss/garter toss??
I did the bouquet toss at my wedding. I LOVE it. I had so many girls get up. But, I did not do the Garter toss because there were not a lot of single guys and the ones that were there would have been embarrassed. Doing that depends on your FH's friends. If they are the wild and crazy type, then go for it.

Re: Why no bouquet toss/garter toss??
I kind of like it because it's very traditional. But FH hates it. If we end up not doing it, I think I will just give my MOH the throw away bo-k and her boyfriend the garter. They live together and hopefull will get engaged soon.

i'm not doing it because most of my friends are already married and those who aren't wouldn't like to be publicly reminded of it

Re: Why no bouquet toss/garter toss??
I did both at my first wedding and it was ok. We were VERY young so lots of single people..LOL. Like one gal said.. when it comes time.. people seem to fly out of the room.. so I dont know how popular it is..LOL
I wont be doing it again, as most people are married around me, and my kids will be both present and involved in the wedding somehow.. I dont want my 17 year old running for a boquet LOL
note: not officially engaged yet... . its like a disclaimer..

Re: Why no bouquet toss/garter toss??
We definitely arent doing a garter toss, still not sure about the bo-k... It is just a personal thing... I don't really like being the center of attention and the whole removing the garter thing would be NIGHTMARE for me. Plus, i think it can become pretty tacky depending on the ppl involved. It really depends on your crowd though and your own preferences.
