Same packages...basic 5 hour w/ DJ and MC...no lights, no props...one company quoted $1025, one quoted $1200 and one quoted $1700 ? All three are companies well known? Could they be that different? So confused? I really dont want to spend the extra money but do you get what you pay for?

Re: why such a difference in DJ price?
You are really paying for overhead, If the person who is doing it has alot of overhead the price is bigger. Were like the guy I am using is only one guy who works out of his house, and I am getting Ceremony, Coktail hour, and full reception with basic light show and give aways for $1100. Were I went to one guy and you get 4 hour reception one DJ and MC and that is it for $1700.

Re: why such a difference in DJ price?
Overhead kind of goes like this: If you are using a DJ Company that has the capability of doing 2, 3, 4, 5, etc, weddings in a day, you are not only paying for the service you get on that day, but for the salaries of all the other employees, plus enough for the company to make a profit. IF you use a smaller company or a self owned business, then the price will probably be a little lower since there is only at most one other person to pay (usually an assistant.) Of course the difference in price can also be because of the technology that they use. But IMO, 1700 bucks is WAY too much to pay for a basic package. I would say 1200 is the going rate for a good DJ with a basic package.
