Wicked - the life and times of the wicked witch of the west

Who read this?

I wanted to read it before I saw the show, but could not get more than 1/3 through it for some reason, and I really wanted to!

I really want to read this too but I'm wondering if I'll be able to get into such a fantasy storyline. I haven't seen the show yet but I heard raves about the book and the story from a coworker. If you ever finish it let us know how it was.

The book is kind of hard to get through and VERY different from the play. Its a lot darker and has some wacky sex stuff in it.... it was good, but if you are expecting the play its really different....once it gets going though, I liked it.

Gregory Maguire...this is one of my *all time* favorite books. I can read it over an over - it was beautifully written (imo, apparently! ) and from what I have read - a lot different from the play.

The play focuses more on the friendship of the two girls/women - Elphaba and Galinda/Glenda.

I loved this book so much that I picked up the rest of his books with the exception of 'Lost'...and have hated every_last_one_of_them.
