Wierd-kinda-scary thing on the way to the train this morning.....

Since we only have the one car, DH drives me to the train station every morning. Today was wierd though bc as we were waiting to turn onto Sunrise Highway - I notice a frazzled looking guy (not homeless) walking across the street towards the car. He's looking right at us too, suddenly he picks up speed as he gets closer to the car and all of a sudden he's right at my open window! DH leaned across me as soon as he saw this - and the guy started saying 'Hey man, I'm not a dirtbag or anything but I'm from Canarsie and me and my girl are stuck here with no money....' DH just cut him off since the light turned green and we were trying to get to the train anyway. It just scared me since he came right up to the car and was getting closer and closer to me as he was talking.... He looked like he was just in a barfight and he was talking like a drunk!! Honestly, he looked and sounded like a damn crackhead. I was just scared too because this all happened at 8 o' clock in the morning in teh middle of traffic! This guy just came out of nowhere and who knew what his true intention was - what if I was alone, what would have happened?? I don't know what kind of person goes walking up to cars waiting in traffic asking for money, but I got the distinct impresion that there was something wrong about the whole thing and I was a little shaken by it. So just a word of warning ladies, please be very careful while driving by yourself. I could be blowing this out of proportion too, but it seemed wierd to me, so it's much better to be safe than sorry. People should not bum rush your car while you are sitting in traffic!! Please be aware of your surroundings when you are in your car.

Wow, that is definitely scary. I'd be shaken up too.

he was probably looking for $ / drugs....unfortunately....

he was probably up all night - that's why he was walking around at 8am.

the same thing happened to me TWICE, however I was walking in a shopping center (in a not-so-great neighborhood, which borders a great neighborhood).

On both occasions, a woman approached me, one said she was from East NY and her car broke down, and she needed $$ to get home.

The second, a VERY large woman was eyeing me in a store and called out to me while I was leaving. I tried to ignore her, until some stupid woman said, 'oh, that lady is calling you'. I was thinking 'Thanks lady, can you mind your business, you idiot!'

I told both of them I'm sorry I can't help you.

Make sure you keep your doors locked and windows almost all the way up.
It's terrible, but rather be safe than sorry!

I am so paranoid I lock my doors IMMEDIATELY when I enter the car---especially when i saw the news story that some girl was waiting @ a red light and a criminal on the run jumped into her back seat and made her take him for a joy ride!

be careful everyone! there's freaking crazy people out there!

That's really frightening. I'm glad DH was with you and nothing more happened!
