Re: wife-to-be in training

Ive never done the online groceries because I'm soo picky when it comes to fruits and vegtables as well as meats.. I'm not sure if there is a general list that you should buy, you just have to buy what you like to eat or can cook. Maybe look online for things that you would like to cook, so you can get an idea what to buy to make it? goodluck!!! if you need help, I love to cook soo feel free to ask lol

just think about meals you would cook and the ingredients you would need. Then theres always the basic stuff that is always on your list, for some people it differs but its things like: milk, eggs, butter, bread, soda or water or whatever you drink, coffee, chicken is the safe way to go, i wouldn't get steaks or other meats unless you knew you were cooking it sometime soon, onions, potatoes, garlic are all things good to always have in the house...Things for breakfast such as cereals, bagels, i already said eggs, canadian bacon, toast. Things for a salad like tomatoes, lettuce, cucumbers. Hmmm other things to have in the house are rice, spaghetti, sauce if you dont make your own, flour, seasonings, ketchup, mustard, salad dressings

FH and I don't live together now so I just eat whatever crap is lying around, lol, but after we get married, I think i'm going to try to plan all of the meals for the following week on saturdays, and then based on what i'm planning on cooknig, i'd make a list of what I need to buy at the supermarket...

Hi ladies,

Do any of you use online groceries to do you groceries??? I'm so not a domestic person and I'm terrible in the kitchen -- but poor FH is sick of take-outs though so I thought I'd learn

Is there a list that I can download from somewhere so I don't have to 'think' about what to buy?? hehehe - there's gotta be some generic list out there ...

How do u guys schedule/manage groceries & meals?? I know it's a personal preference, but thought I'd ask for some tips

Thanks!

May I make a suggestion? As a new bride 35 yrs. ago, I didn't know much about cooking, and always ended up with too many leftovers! I think it would have helped me to have a 'Cooking For Two' cookbook. Mary MOB

HAHA! No - not really That's why I don't like grocery shopping coz it takes me soooo long to plan!!!

-- i started making index cards with simple recipes and take them with me when I do go to the groceries but I only have very few that I'm sick of them too!

someone just suggested spaghetti --- GREAT IDEA!! I'll cook that for the week -- wait, do u guys cook a lot and freeze them?? There's only 2 of us, sometimes (rarely) I cook only good for 2 meals and i feel like it's such a waste of time!

ok i'm totally babbling here ... i just wish I was Martha Stewart!!!!!!!!! ... so I can have someone prepare stuff for me

I love love grocery shopping but I hate to cook, lol. I dont plan it I just go and shop, you shouldnt plan on when to go to the market bec that may bring you more stress, just do it!!!!! and buy what ever you want to buy. My parents do all the cooking but when I do I make a killer baked ziti

Re: wife-to-be in training

I just go to the store to buy what I need. Sorry I just don't understand how people live on restaurants and take-out every nite. Then again I grew up in a house where the whole family sat down together to a homecooked meal every nite.

so did I - and I still have homecooked meals with family every time I visit them -- I only started eating out all the time when I went to NYU for college - when u live in the city it's just so much more convenient - especially when u have a LOT of choices

lol. You are so right. When you live in the city it is so easy to do take out all the time because of all the choices. When I lived on LI I rarely did take out but here in the city everyone delivers and it is so tempting. As far as ordering groceries online, I know a lot of people who do fresh direct and are really happy with the quality of the food. I Think it is also easier to plan meals when you are ordering the food online.

Here are some sites that I found...they basically have lists of stuff and then you can click what you want and print up. Thought that might help. The Betty Crocker one is cool...when you add recipes to the box, it automatically makes you a grocery list.

There are a few of the ones I checked out that seemed helpful. I hope that helps you. Good luck! FH is lucky you are doing what you can to find out stuff for when you guys live together.

Fh and I go out to eat alot and order...When we live together it will be different but when we spend nights together, many times its me taking 3 trains from jersey to get to queens, get to his house, him packing clothes for work the next day, then drive in traffic to my house, by the time we get there we're both starving and its around 8pm at least so its alot easier than also stopping at the supermarket and then cooking. Sometimes i'll do it and we'll go grocery shopping before we get to my house. ALso considering im out of my house at 7am and dont get home until 8pm when i see him not in the biggest mood to cook. It might be hard to understand for some but then again everyone is different and has different circumstances and lifestyles. And yes even those of us who grew up with home cooked meals every night which i did and FH who his parents still cook everything and make it from scratch and many times we will have dinner with them bc for me theres nothing like pasta with home made gravy.
