Will you bring FMIL dress shopping with you?

So on Say Yes to the Dress a lot of women bring the FMIL with them. I never even considered this. We are not close. Do you think she will be offended?

I am not bringing her during the process of finding dresses but I am going to be bringing her when I feel I am going to make my decision so she can see which dresses I have in the running and get her opinion. I am quite close with FMIL so her opinion does matter to me.

I didnt bring FMIL with me dress shopping. But I told her that I would like for her to see my dress since I found it. I also want FSIL to see it too, but I have to wait for her to come back from school, so they can come together.

Dont feel bad. I dont think your FMIL will take any offense to it.

My sister's MIL didnt want anything to do with her wedding gown! And she got so hurt by this! I mean, who wouldnt?

my mother in law said she would give us money towards the wedding but wants no involvement in the planning.I was like woooah ok. I didn't expect that we get along so I was pretty shocked.

I'm not sure, I had always planned to take my mom and MOH with me but now that I think of it, FMIL may really want to come. She has two boys and always wanted a girl...dunno yet. Won't shop for a dress till 12 months out

i didn't want FMIL to come with me so i didn't invite her ... i don't think FMIL was offended ... but she was seriously hoping i'd ask her

at our e-party, she asked me to describe the dress and i wouldn't even do that (it's a surprise to everyone ... only my mom and my second mom have seen it ... and my aunt saw a pic since she's paying for it)

FMIL lives in Fla and I know she feels left out of the planning. FH is realllly close with my mom and family and I know she is upset that we dont get down there as much. I plan on taking her when they come up for e-party to see the RH and then when i go down in the summer Il go try on the dress i found if they have it down there!

No-FH isn't close with her; so i never really formed a close bond. I'll just have my Mom & sister there...

yes, i want to ask her to come with me. She has 3 boys and I know she'd love it!

I don't think your FMIL would take offense to it, but if you're close with her, I think its nice to ask.

Re: Will you bring FMIL dress shopping with you?

i brought my fmil once, biggest mistake i made...it made my mother feel very uncomfortable...even to the point where the sales lady at the bridal salon noticed it and asked me to pull my mother aside...

i would say only bring her if she is supportive, positive and you truly value her opinion...if not then leave her home until you actually have the dress

and i would say the same thing about anyone else that you might want to bring dress shopping...

sorry if i sound negative, but ive had a few ppl rain on my parade while dress shopping

Re: Will you bring FMIL dress shopping with you?

Nope. I went with my Mom and my grandma's. I think FMIL would have liked to go, she mentioned something about nice salons in San Diego, but that's where she lives, not where I live. I told her that I was going to look closer to home. I did email her pics of the dress after we bought it. She liked it.

I think even if she was here in this state I wouldn't have asked her to go. She is VERY opinionated and doesn't have a filter. She already makes me uncomfortable so bringing her would have been a disaster.

The first time Im going is in a few weeks, Im just going with my mom. If I go again, FMIL can come. Im pretty sure she wants to. We get along, and I think she will be honest with what she thinks. Shes busy right now with her own daughters wedding, so im not asking her right away.

I did not bring her but I showed her pictures of it on the internet [not of me in the dress] because FH asked me to if he had not asked I would not have done it.
I think that is all I will do I don't think I will bring her to fittings unless I grow a heart by then.

FMIL is paying for the dress, so I'd have to say yes, she's coming along

It isn't about growing a heart. And I don't think you should feel bad for not including her. Some women on the boards have fab relationships with their FMIL some of us don't. But I don't think you should feel heartless.
