your fmil and ffil by their first names or mom and dad after you get married?

Jenny- I do the same thing. I avoid calling them anything at all costs. They all make fun of me.

I have a whole bunch of names for my MIL and none of them are 'mom'!!!

Seriously, though...I just call her by her first name. DH calls my mom by her name, too. I could *never* call her mom, it's just not the nature of our relationship.

It's funny, FMIL laughs b/c I can't seem to find anything to call her. I called her Mrs...until recently (it took 4 years!), and I now call his parents by their first names.

I have no trouble calling his aunts by Aunt....or calling his grandmother Grandma, maybe b/c I always had more than one anyway. But, I only have one mom and one dad, and I reserve those titles for them.

After 8 years I am still calling them Mr. and Mrs. I know FMIL wants me to call her mom after we are married, but I don't know. We'll see.

I call my FMIL by her first name. I really don't call FFIL anything He has said repeatedly that he'd like me to call him 'Dad' but I don't feel comfortable doing that. I love him to death. But my Dad is my Dad and I have a feeling that my Dad would be hurt if he heard me calling my FFIL 'Dad'.
Fh calls my Mom and Dad by their first names, but calls my grandparents 'Abuelo and Abuela', which is grandpa and grandma is Spanish.

I STILL don't call them anything, and we've been together for over 2 years! I have completely avoided ever using any sort of title - not even Mr. or Mrs. Everything sounds inappropriate they are really difficult people to read and FMIL gets offended way too easily.

fi will call my parents MOM and DAD - right now he says mr and mrs. i call his parents mr and mrs. fmil has told fi to tell me to call her by first name but i'm not used to calling elders by their 1st name so i would feel awkward doing so- esp as she's my fmil.

it's kind of weird for me that she won't want me to call her mom. but considering our relationship it may not work anyway.

I'm really relieved to find out I'm not the only 1 who doesn't call FMIL by any name in particular. I do the same - just direct questions & such in her general direction.

I don't see that changing after the wedding unless she lets me know its okay. I refuse to call her Mom tho, only 1 woman gets that honor!

FH calls my parents mom and dad, and his parents, I don't call them anything, but his mother has hinted at wanting me to call her by her first name, and to me, maybe because of my family, that is really cold and makes me feel like I will never be a true part of their family. Am I the only one who thinks that?

theres a thread on this on the NW Board..

I only have a MIL...and I call her 'madre' its easier than mom...she calls me her daughter though

my mom asked DH to call her mom...so he does b/c it makes her happy

they were always 'mr and mrs'... but for mothers day I gave a separate card 'dear mom'... and it the front it said something about from your daughter

maysie--- me and fiance do the same thing as you.. we just direct the questions, and avoid saying any name completely.. but for the gift exchanging I wanted to see 'mom and dad'
