Will your parents be opening envelopes with you after the wedding?
Mine mentioned it and I found this to be strange OK, very strange. I don't mind telling them what family members gifts were, but to sit with us and open them
What do you all think?

Don't take this the wrong way but it sounds like your parents are very nosy.
DH and I opened everything by ourselves. And of course his mother tried to ask what everyone else gave but we won't tell her. Although maybe it would make her realize that what she gave us is a completely unacceptable amount to give to your son

I have heard of that being done, in fact, I was there with my best friend after her wedding when she did that -- it was odd -- it was a morning wedding, so at 5, me, another bm, best friend, her new husband, and her parents all went to her parents house. She opened the gifts in front of us -- it actually made me feel a little uncomfortable - she was opening and her mom was making a list. It was weird because she opened my envelope while I was there -- I was more than generous, as was the other bm, but it was still weird! YOu can tell your parents that you and FH were looking forward to reading the cards privately.

My ILs were here when we opened our gifts so I guess they kind of did open them with us.

My mom and sister will probably open them and put a list together for me and deposit them for me. Let them do the work.

we weren't able to open envelopes and gifts till we got back from our honeymoon, which happened to be Thanksgiving day, so yes, my parents were kind of 'around' when DH and I opened the presents, but they didn't watch over us while we opened them. It was just the two of us.
Periodically, I would yell out yelps of excitement over how generous people were to us, but other than that, my parents or DHs parents dont really know how much people gave us.

i think we will be openning the alone. but honestly im not sure.
Hell no! We opened them in our suite - just the two of us. I would have felt REALLY uncomfortable opening them in front of anyone else.

you should do what you feel most comfortable with. i don't plan on having anyone but us 2 there, but we will make a list (for thank you cards) and may show it to my mother, although i'm not positive!

I never gave this much thought yet, but after reading the posts I would not want anyone else to see what everyone gave us. It would be awkward. I don't know if we will want to open them in the HM suite the night of b/c we will have better things to do! LOL
Maybe we'll open them when we get back in our own home.
