With today 'modern women' and all, and me being extremely bored at my job right now reading the job post that is out there, I thought this would be very interesting to find out. How many career-inspiring girls we have here, and how many.. not after marriage and children?

I'd love to quit after having children. However, it depends on what our finances look like at that point.

I don't ever want to quit completely... but it would be nice to take some time off when the kids are born or work part time. My FH has dreams of owning his own businesses and said I could run those from home But we'll see if that ever happens.

Re: Will you still be working?
I will be working after marriage, in a perfect world I would like to not work when we have kids, but with the economy and cost of living increasing who knows if that will ever happen. But Maybe I'll just win Lotto!!

Re: Will you still be working?
I would love to be able to be a stay at home mom, but it doesn't seem too likely. My sister and I will probably take over my dad's real estate business eventually, so at least I'll work for myself and my hours should be pretty flexible.

I hope to work PT or take off for a while when we have kids until they are old enough to go to school.

Re: Will you still be working?
I couldnt quit. I worked so very hard to get where I am and Im still not where I want to be.
I like working with people and my clients and couldnt give it up.
I am the major contribution to the household. Even if Jim got a huge jump in pay I'd still know that my half pays a lot of bills.
If he were filthy rich (which hes not) and if I didnt actually have to work to pay bills (which I do) and I was sure nothing would happen to Jim or myself that would impact our income (who can tell) then maybe I'd consider it.

Re: Will you still be working?
My FH told me last night that if he gets a job in Nassau or Suffolk (cop, he's now in the NYPD) that I woudn't have to work when we have kids.. he told me that i have accomplished so much and have done so much already that he would want me to raise our children.. and I could have a small part time job at a boutique.. that was his exact words, he's so cute.. then when the kids are school age, I'd probably go back

Re: Will you still be working?
I would never dream of quitting ever... my career is just as important to me as his... we talked about it and agree that raising children is 50/50, so there's no reason why either of us should have to quite our job, as long as we work together fully to raise them... I think it's just as important to provide a remarkable role model, and I will always look up to my mother as providing the best role model of what a good mother and ambitious career woman can be... I want to do that for my children as well

Re: Will you still be working?
Definitely still working. After spending 4 years in college and 3 years in law school, which isn't cheap, there's no way I'm giving up my career. I've worked too hard to get where I am and I feel like it would be a waste for me to have studied so hard and sacrificed so much just to give it. I may decide to leave my law firm at some point to go in house or to do public interest work, which will decrease my hours, but I don't plan on quitting.

Re: Will you still be working?
Actually, my FI and I decided that he may be a SAHD once we have kids! I am going to finish my Doctorate, and once I do I should be making much more $, so it would make financial sense for me to be the one to continue working. If he is as good with kids as he is with animals I know they will be in good hands (I have never changed a diaper before, so I can't say I have any experience in it anyway!).

couldn't have said it better myself! (not the law school part) but i've spent the last 10 years getting my bachelors, masters and cpa i'm not going to give it up now. i chose a career i know i can do part-time or in-house so i could hopefully raise a family too. the idea is to have it all hopfully it will come true....

Re: Will you still be working?
I still work, staying home is not an option for me in todays society!! The cost of living is too high, and although we do alright, my part is necessary! I hope to win lotto one day.

I would still work we make really good money together and he could probably do it alone. I would die if I didn't have something to do everyday. As I get up in age, I think that I would do something like babysitting babies and sm children , but that is FAR off. I am only 26.

Re: Will you still be working?
As long as we stay living on LI, we will need the two incomes. These days, who can afford to quite their job! If we ever decide to move to Texas, well then I might consider going part-time after having .

Actually this might happen for us too. I already make much more than him and once I get my degree I'll outearn him even more.
We want to move out of NY and to another state and doing that I get to take my salary with me (stay within the company) since we have offices in every state. My salary in another state would be more than enough for both of us and a child.
Jim could work part time if he wanted but it wouldnt be necessary for him to try to compete with my income.
