Re: windstar cruises?

We did a Windstar cruise the first week of June from Istanbul, Turkey to Athens, Greece. We stopped in Kusadasi, Turkey, Rhodes, Greece, Bodrum, Turkey, Santorini, Greece and Mykonos, Greece. My husband set our honeymoon up entirely as a surprise so I didn't know we were doing this but we spent the first week in Santorini, then went to Istanbul and took the cruise. I was a little wary when I first found out about the cruise because I've gone on cruises before and while I love them for what they are, I don't think they are very romantic and can get pretty cheezy. No offense to anyone taking honeymoon cruises cause that's obviously just my opinion and I've been on 5 huge cruises and loved everyone of them. Just didn't want it for my honeymoon. Anyway, Windstar was completely different. There was only about 135 passengers so it was more private. The staff was so wonderful and friendly. The food was incredible. There isn't a lot of the typical cheezy entertainment (though there is one bbq night where they do line-dancing on the deck). You can kind of just do your own thing. All of that being said, I thought it was great for the second week of our honeymoon but I wouldn't have wanted it to be the whole thing. I'm glad we spent 5 days on our own because once we got on the boat it wasn't like it was just the two of us anymore. It's definitely more intimate than a regular huge cruise, but you still are around the same people, everyone knows you, and you can't avoid getting into conversations with people. You also might end up having to eat with strangers some nights (though generally you can always eat alone and there's no set time for when you eat). We really liked the social aspect of it so it didn't bother us at all but if you're looking to just stick to yourselves and stare into each other's eyes without interruption, you can't really do that here :) Also keep in mind that b/c of the nature of the cruise (mainly b/c it's SO expensive) you will be the youngest people there by about 30 years. There were only 4 or 5 other couples who were around our age and everyone else was our parents' ages or up. We ended up making great friends with everyone but just a warning for you!

If you have any other questions definitely feel free to send me mail so we don't have to discuss publicly. I absolutely loved it and would highly recommend it to anyone, with the few caveats I mentioned. I can give you more details if you have any questions and can also try to send you some pictures if that helps.
