Not huge fans either. We've tried wine tasting and have had fun, but hate 90% of it. Some we enjoy, but aren't big drinkers to begin with.

I am a wine drinker and there are some types that I don't really like!!! Sometimes they can be too dry... why not try something sweeter like a Riesling? They are sweet and yummy!!!

My favorite wine is cabernet or pinot noir.. both reds. I also like chardonnay, but you might not like that since it's not too sweet.

I am a BIG Wine Fan.. I agree I think alot of it has to do with finding the kind you like!! I love Pinot Grigio. I think you need to give it another shot!

I think I was just born to drink wine... my first sip of wine was seriously when I was 2 years old because that's when my dad first gave me a sip (it must be an italian thing LOL).

Re: wine drinkers

Some times it takes awhile to acquire a taste for it lol I never really liked wine too much, I drank it every now and then (usually when I was under 21 and it was the only thing ppl had to drink OR at some clubs when it's 'Ladies night' they give free wine/champagne).

About 3 yrs ago FH and I were big BEER(and liquor) drinkers..then FH's friend and his fiance took a wine tasting course and FH wanted to get into drinking wine...at first I would only drink white zinfandel... then I slowly started drinkin pinot grigio and sometimes merlot (I would only drink those if I had Havarti cheese w/ it-it makes it taste better lol)... but eventually i acquired a taste for it... now I LOVE red wines more than white... and I'm so used to wine now that I can barely drink beer anymore.

It took me awhile to get use to the taste but now I love it!

I definitely think it's an acquired taste thing! When I was a lot younger someone got me into white zinfandel, which seems to be the least 'offensive' if you're not accustomed to drinking wine (it's VERY sweet) and I can't stand it now . . . But most people hate white zinfandel once they get more into wine. Usually the whites are a little easier to drink if you're not used to the taste. I find that many people don't care as much for reds if they're not really 'wine drinkers'.

Also, there is a lot of bad wine out there that I can't choke down (and I love wine . . . well the good stuff at least). A good, reasonably priced white is Kris pinot grigio, it's about $12 and I think it's almost as good as Santa Margarita for half the price.

You should try a wine spritzer if you liked mixing it. A wine spritzer is half wine, half either sprite or half seltzer. Makes it a little easier to get used to.

Re: wine drinkers

I LOVE wine, like a few others when I started out, i would only drink white zinfndel, and I HATED merlot. Seemed no matter what kind I tried or what I paired it with it was awful.

But little by little it as I experimented with them more I liked i more and more, it took me years to get FH to like them but he does now1
He first enjoyed Moscato, a sweet white wine, the next one he liked was a pinot noir, very fruity red wine, and now he likes merlot as much as I do.
we also like riesling, port, and chianti...keep trying them once you find one that you like your tastes will grow!
happy drinking!!

Re: wine drinkers

For me, wine was a lot like coffee... I didn't start drinking coffee until well into my twenties and I started with sugary things like iced mochas and stuff... with wine, I started with white zinfandel which is very sweet. Then I moved on to pinot grigio (white) and cabernet sauvignon (red). NOw I'll drink Merlot and Chardonnay too, but pinot grig and cab are still my faves.

Riesling is also very sweet, so much so that I can't even really drink it.

But when I first started you couldn't get me to touch a pinot noir or chardonnay... so yes, I think it is very much an acquired thing. Like someone else said, start with the white zin or the riesling and then it'll just be trial and error to find other things you like. And like someone else said, there's a lot of bad wine out there... and wine can turn bad if you don't store it properly... so don't writre it off yet!! Wine is a great experience but you have to give it a chance

Re: wine drinkers

I love wine but I am very picky about the types of wine I will drink. Try a few different types- I really like Anakena it is a sauvignon blanc...not too sweet.

I LOVE wine but haven't always. I think it is definitely an acquired taste... Drink up until you start enjoying it

Re: wine drinkers

I agree with what many other girls said...try to start with white zin and go from there. Honestly, my best friend is/was a huge wine fan so I started drinking it because of her. I would only drink white zin and now I don't even like it because it is so sweet. I am guessing wine isn't for everyone but there are soooo many different types I'm sure you could find one that you like.

I agree that it's an acquired taste, and I think that is true for a lot of alcohol.

Re: wine drinkers

Maybe try drinking a sangria....it's wine, with some brandy, i think, and LOTS of fruit. It's generally pretty sweet, and the fruit may help make it easier for you to drink. Then you can move on to white zinfendel, then the whites.

You can also maybe go to the wineries. They have tastings of flights of wine, where it's a fairly small amount, so if you don't like a particular one it's not like you're wasting a whole glass. Also at most of the wineries, they let you select the wines in your flight, and there's someone there who can help you select something sweeter.
