Re: wine drinkers

When I was younger...and really not suppose to be drinking it.... I HATED it. I tried to like it so bad because that was the girly thing to do lol. I was always a beer drinker, still am but now after basically forcing myself to drink wine so much I love it. I actually enjoy the taste now and order it all the time.

First time I drank wine my MOH and I went to the liquor store because we wanted to be 'Mature' We walked out with a BOX of white zin. We drank it out of red dixie cups. I think you have to acquire a taste to wine. I loved sweet wine at first now I love pinot grigio and some red wines. Do a vinyard trip you are sure to find one you like!

It does take a while to develop a taste for it. It took me and FH a few years to get into it. He used to buy those Australian reds, and I hated them. (actually I still don't prefer to drink them!) Then we started going wine tasting regularly and became exposed to different wines, and when you read a description and then you can actually taste the notes they are talking about, it becomes more enjoyable. I did like white wines before I started getting into reds.
Pinot grigio is always a good place to start, it's nice and light. But if sweet is what you like then reisling would be good. It's a dessert wine though. Something a little less sweet that you can eat dinner with is a Gewurztraminer (one of my favorites, it has orange blossom and lychee notes!). When you get into Chardonnay you have to see if it was barrel or steel fermented. Steel makes it taste more crisp, light and fruity, while barrel gives the toasty, buttery, oak flavor. My favorite are those that spend time in both. But a few years ago I only liked steel.
Sometimes it takes a really good wine to get you to jump into it, or to get you into a different type. Do go tasting on the North Fork. You really get exposed to a lot of good wines without having to buy a bottle and then realize you hate it.

It definitely is an acquired taste. It seems since you like sweet ones, you might like reislings. They're sweet. Some other sweet ones you might want to try are:
Pindar Winter White
Beringer White Merlot
Jam Jar
Sweet B*tch

For me, wine was a lot like coffee... I didn't start drinking coffee until well into my twenties and I started with sugary things like iced mochas and stuff... with wine, I started with white zinfandel which is very sweet. Then I moved on to pinot grigio (white) and cabernet sauvignon (red). NOw I'll drink Merlot and Chardonnay too, but pinot grig and cab are still my faves.

Riesling is also very sweet, so much so that I can't even really drink it.

But when I first started you couldn't get me to touch a pinot noir or chardonnay... so yes, I think it is very much an acquired thing. Like someone else said, start with the white zin or the riesling and then it'll just be trial and error to find other things you like. And like someone else said, there's a lot of bad wine out there... and wine can turn bad if you don't store it properly... so don't writre it off yet!! Wine is a great experience but you have to give it a chance

omg, i felt like i was reading something i had written. this was the same thing for me- with coffee and wine. now i can't live without either lol. i'm actually headed to the vineyards tomorrow

Re: wine drinkers

i drink white wine, but i usually stick to one kind- pinot grigio. santa margareta is my fave, but if we are out at a restaurant and dont buy a bottle, i will get whatever the house pinot grigio is. sometimes its good, some times its not.

it is something you aquire. its been a while since i started drinking it, and now we go to wineries for tastings.

i hate red wine though. so i never to the red tastings.

We love wine..........not all wines! There are so many types & so many flavors from all over the world it's amazing. Try going on a wine tour eastern Long Island. You may find it interesting & maybe even find a wine you like.

I used to be a major wine-o. Like 2 glasses EVERY night without fail. Now I take two sips and my head hurts and I just wanna fall asleep. I guess our love affair is over.

ETA: Drink Beringer's White ZInfandel. It's very sweet, you'd probably like it. OOH! Or this strawberry one! I can't remember the name of it, but ask Jessie. I got it as a gift from her!

It's from a wine tasting place in Lake George - Adironack Winery and it's called Strawberry Breeze

Strawberry Breeze

I also recommend the Green Apple Blossom (now called Orchard Blossom)
