Hello everyone!! I am so glad to see that the 2015 Bride section is filling up!! I noticed a lot of winter brides on here - any reason in particular you wanted a winter wedding?
I originally wanted a spring or summer or fall (or really anything BUT winter wedding), however the difference in prices is what made the deciding factor. It was basically either pick a place that we could afford (but didnt love) and get married in Sepember, or go with a place we LOVED and sacrifice the warm weather. I don't regret it though! I think Winter Weddings are beautiful!
Also, do you get a lot of people asking 'Why don't you get married in the summer when the weather is nicer? Why January?' We get that a lot and its super frustrating! Then i explain the price difference and that shuts people up pretty quick! LOL

Winter Brides??
Hi! Im getting married in January 2015...sounds so far right? lol we picked that month because after crunching the numbers we figured it was worth taking the chance to save some money. Also, this past January eventhough we had some snow, we also had a few 50 degree days too. I originally had my heart set on an October wedding, but after looking on websites to get ideas, I can not wait to do the decor for my winter wedding :) The watermill is beautiful all year round. I was at a wedding there last August. They had an outdoor cocktail hour and it was horrible because it was too damn hot! Thank God we wont have to worry about the heat for our weddings ;)

We are thinking of March but havent booked anything yet. I'm also tossing around the idea of January for cost reasons. I keep reminding myself that its just one day afterall and the month itself doesnt matter in the big scheme of things BUT is anyone worried about snow? Thats probably the only thing that worries me about a winter wedding. What are your thoughts??

I was worried about the snow but Fox Hollow banquet manager said that in case there is a crazy storm like what we just had, we have three months to reschedule. So I am sure most of the other venues would have same policy. Also I have been looking at pictures and I have to say, alittle snow on the ground makes it look really nice :) Another thing, once you start looking around you will really be able to get numbers and see the difference in price. I have to tell you, from October to January we are saving thousands, I am not even exaggerating.

When your looking think about doing it on a Friday night bc a Friday night is cheaper then a Saturday night. The price difference is about 10-15 dollars pp cheaper. If you want I have a whole bunch of different places I can give you prices for.

I had no idea halls had a policy like that! That is very comforting to know! And we are definitely looking to do a Friday night wedding. I actually like the idea of having the rest of the weekend to recoup but the savings is definitely worth it. But yes if you could share whatever quotes you have I would greatly appreciate it! I don't have any January quotes. Thanks girls!

2013-er crashing.....I WANTED a winter wedding! I always wanted it to be cold outside and warm and cozy inside and lots of sparkle. I do understand the comments though, they infuriate me too. Just this weekend a woman who I didn't know scrunched up her face and said 'December is too cold for a wedding.' I pointed out the window and said 'well, it's as cold as December now and it's April. Is April too cold for a wedding?' Another person I know, who I was on the fence about inviting told me I should pick another month because of the weather. Some people.....

My cousin had a winter wedding the weekend before christmas. It was beautiful. I think its just a matter of how you picture your day. People get stuck on what's 'traditional' but somebody will always have something to say so you might as well do what you want :)

EXACTLY!!! People forgot too - the ENTIRE reception is basically indoors whether its spring or summer or winter! I went to a wedding last August and the coctail hour was outside - it was SWELTERING hot! I couldnt WAIT to get inside to the reception! You pay a TON more money to have a majority of the celebration indoors! The only advantage is really the pictures - but winter pictures are also very beautiful! =) Its so nice to see i'm not the only one here lol

I totally agree! I also attended 2 weddings where the ceremony & cocktail hour was outside and it was soo hot you couldnt really enjoy it.
But for the January brides.. do you know if your hall will still be decorated from Christmas? I know decorations stay up until after the new year but since my cousin (who is also my MOH) did a christmas wedding, I want to avoid doing the same thing.

I know the Watermill keeps the lights up for the entore winter season (white lights everywhere outside). I believe for the first couple weeks after Christmas it might still be decorated but thats actually a good question - I'm not sure about the tree, wreaths, etc. I will have to ask!

No Jott, you are definitely not the only one lol. I would NEVER want to get married in Summer, even if it was free. When its too hot to enjoy anything why bother? I dont feel like spending a fortune and melting on my wedding day.

The Watermill keeps the lights up. We were looking at the Watermill, and although we are having a Jan wedding, I wanted a place that could guarantee that we would be the only wedding/event on location. We booked at Thatched Cottage for Jan 17 2015.
We went to the watermill after Christmas (in January I think) and the tree was still up. I don't think they took it down until February!

I actually hate the heat and wouldn't want my make up melting off in the summer, also the price made me jump at a winter wedding. Side note, my engagement party was right during the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, so even though it was fall we still got slammed with AWFUL weather and no power...some how we pulled it off though & made some great memories, I got very lucky. (After Sandy almost ruined my engagement party I was left between Spring and Winter seasons to make my decision).
Congrats on picking your hall and We'll be sharing the same wedding month!! :)
