Crashing - we picked January b/c it was so cheap. We were able to get the venue of our dreams for a fraction of the cost. Plus, people are just dying for an excuse to party in the winter months!

Exactly this for us as well!! We never would have been able to afford our venue on a weekend night in September as we originally planned... and I agree that people are definately looking for an excuse to party in the winter!

But for the January brides.. do you know if your hall will still be decorated from Christmas? I know decorations stay up until after the new year but since my cousin (who is also my MOH) did a christmas wedding, I want to avoid doing the same thing.
2014'er Crashing -- The Inn at NHP stays decorated for Christmas for a large portion of January. I spoke to my contact there and she said everything can be moved if I prefer - which I absolutely do. A lot of people don't celebrate Christmas so they have to be able to take down their decorations if a couple prefers.
I absolutely wanted to have a winter wedding, but I do not want to have a Christmas wedding. All Christmas decorations at the hall will be taken down for our wedding. Just my preference!

Winter Brides??
I would have loved to have an autumn wedding, but price ended up being the deciding factor for us as well. We had originally picked out potential dates in October, November, and January when we started planning (FH and I both love the cold!), so we are happy with our decision. We're going to have our engagement photo shoot in the autumn so we can get some beautiful outdoor pictures (with the foliage and all) that we otherwise wouldn't be getting on our wedding, so I'm excited and feel like I found the best way to get everything I wanted in the end!

I agree with you - I definately am aiming for more of a 'Winter Wonderland' feel with lots of white and crystal... definately will not be going with the red and green theme (just not for me).

I'm actually very excited to try and plan a winter wedding. My sister had a winter wedding at the Chateau and it was beautiful and much cheaper.
I was actually really interested from the photos of the Inn at New Hyde Park. Does anyone know the rates for a saturday night winter wedding there? It looks very beautiful in the winter
