I got my wisdom teeth out at the beginning of the month. My usual dentist did it and I didn't get knocked out, i just got novicaine, so that is an option if you're really uncomfortable with the idea of getting the gas. If you're going to get them out you should do it sooner rather than later, the older you get the stronger and deeper the roots become and that's when you start hearing horror stories. If you go to a good dentist/oral surgeon and follow their directions then you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

I had the same problem - three of my wisdom teeth would hurt sometimes and then the pain would go away, my dentist said no big deal that I could wait
well one morning i woke up and out of nowhere TWO of my wisdom teeth on my right side were KILLING ME - my entire right side was swollen and i developed an earache. . . i had to go to work but they actually sent me home bc i was in tears the whole day
it hurt SO BAD that the next morning after a sleepless night I went to my regular dentist but she doesnt perform oral surgery, she recommended a bunch of doctors BUT only one was open since it was Sunday. . . I went to him BUT he didnt take my insurance, so it ended up costing me $1500! At that point i was there and in such horrible pain i told him to take them out i didnt care!
Well he gave me this 'twilight' stuff, I knew where I was when I wanted to know - but if i felt like drifting off i went off into this wierd dream land it was actually pretty awesome. . .( except i woke up cursing like a sailor for some reason 'i am effing tripping man' lol) the surgery was FINE - i was swollen and in pain for only that day the next day i was doing much better
what got me mad though was that when i went for my follow up he told me if i had gotten them out sooner my teeth wouldnt be as messed up in the front - they pushed my teeth forward and now i have my 'vampire' teeth lol
(( two of them were still under the skin thats why i got the twilight it was an actual surgery that involved stitches))
