With todays economy

Original post by MrsGarcia

do you feel like a guilty mess getting married?.. I honestly feellike calling it off and saving for a house instead. Just incase. I don't know something about spending $5000 on a photographer and $15 per person just for a VH makes me ill .. I just don't feel like I can do it. Seeing how the world is.

Yes, we have talked about this a few times now since our engagement. Honestly, if I could go back in time, lol, I would have a very small wedding (no more than 50) and it would still beautiful but intimate. I do feel guitly from time that the money we are spending on this wedding can go towards a house. To us, our priority was to buy a house but we didn't see this coming so soon, the bad economy and all.

I totlly hear ya. When we first looked into places, we went to Willow Creek. The place was BEAUTIFUL, but I just couldn't bring myself to pay that much per person. We are having a budget wedding. I think that the day should be filled w/love, fun, friends & family. I don't think it matters to people if you have a VH. They will have a good time either way.

**Meanwhile, I love your picture of 'Peanut' he is my FAV!!!!!

I think one of the reasons I live LIW so much is that I'm able to actually talk about the wedding! I feel like in the 'real world' I don't like to talk about it much or I tend to downplay the whole thing because people are hurting financially right now.

FH and I are lucky that we have enough for this wedding and that our jobs are secure, but so many people aren't that I feel guilty.

Re: With todays economy

we were thinking about pushing it back another year but then decided against it since you never know how the economy is going to go.... by this time next year things could be better or a lot worst

we worry and fight about money allllllllllllll the time i swear FH thinks $$$ grows on trees or maybe it falls from the sky

you guys just have to be careful!! most of you are young, and just starting out. I would hate to see you go into debt when your married life has just begun. make sure you have a future financial plan. no ones saying that you can't have a beautiful wedding. just don't let it get crazy!

I've been feeling that way too. Not only the saving for the house and the risk of losing jobs in this economy but also the fact that some people are having trouble keeping their kids fed and I'm having this huge affair.

I told FH that we were gonna start donating some money to a local soup kitchen every month though. It won't save the world but at least I'll be doing what I can.

I do not feel guilty about getting married, I just feel guilty having my family feel obligated to give a gift since we are getting married.

I am very much in love with FH as all of us are, and I am looking forward to celebrating that love with our family and friends. I have looked at booking certain vendors differently like, 'do I really need those expensive out of season flowers?', 'do I really need that really huge obnoxious limo?' 'do I really need those expensive invites?'

I have been cutting back on things yes, but I feel like its only money and we have a lifetime to share together to make more money together.

The same...it's beating a dead horse to say that I'm probably one of the most, if not the most, frugal to the point of painful girls on the board. I cannot and will not spend thousands of dollars on flowers that are going to die...so I didn't. My invitations, for what they are, are very reasonable, even though I hem and haw at times, but lets not go down that road today. I bargain, I negotiate, and I'm going to be freezing my booty off at my wedding just so we could afford it.

FH would say otherwise, he would much rather just not have a big wedding, just immediate family at a restaurant or something, and just have the church ceremony. But as much as he complains, he knows that I'm not going overboard with things, and that we're being responsible.

So I guess I don't really feel guilty...the economy is pretty shietty right now, and yes, a lot of our guests may not be able to attend as a result. But FH and I have been very responsible in our young lives, so while it makes a dent, it's not a burden. We're also very fortunate that our immediate families are able to help us when we need it as well. We're just taking one day at a time and hoping things will turn around...but I don't think the wedding is going to put us on the streets.
