Is it fair for someone to say they want a monetary gift. I kinda feel like i should have been given the right to choose as to what gift I wanted to give as wedding gift....

Re: wondering
In my personal opinion I think it's kind of tacky to ask for $$...when you are having a wedding you are asking friends and family to celebrate you commitment to each other..it is not supposed to be about gifts.
I would never put that on an invitation or anywhere else

Re: wondering
it was not on the invite...so I asked her where she was registered. She stated that oh she isnt...she did that on purpose so when ppl ask she can just tell them to give her cash...

Re: wondering
I think that is weird of her to ask for money for the wedding, because people usually bring money and put that in the card, hence the card box. Every wedding I have ever been to in my life, it is tradition to give money. Still weird that she asked though

Re: wondering
Her rational is that she didn't have a shower so she should get really big monetary gifts

Re: wondering
Yea, but this is just me...If someone doesn't have a shower, its not like I'm going to give them a bigger gift at the wedding. She's probably going to lose out more because of that. She should have had a shower, at least she would have gotten some presents. If you are broke, and $50 is all you can give, it is at least something. Times are tough right now, she should be more understanding about people's financial situations, if she is so worried about $ she should have a smaller wedding, or wait another year like I am
