I am so confused we ordered our invites yesterday, and the lady told us since the envelope is big we can just address our invites and not put anything on the inner envelope. I am worrried this is going to cause confusion and people are going to think they are invited with a guest, etc. What is everyone else doing?

Re: Wording on envelope ettiquette........
My invitation person told me that inner envelopes don't have to be used anymore. She said I should try and get the names of guests and include them on the outer envelope and if not you can put and guest as a last resort. I think it is totally up to you whether or not you use an inner envelope. I decided not to b/c it is one more piece that needs to have names put on it.

Personally - I'd put the names on the inner envelope anyway to avoid confusion...nothing worse than people inviting guests when you didn't expect them!

I have tacky people, so I used an inner AND included their names.

Re: Wording on envelope ettiquette........
I used the inner and either listed or the names or put '& guest' when I had no choice. Better to be safe than sorry, and they do look very nice too.

Re: Wording on envelope ettiquette........
The currect issue of Martha Stewart shows the names on the inner envelope. I will probably stick with this 'classic' format. But I have received invitations from friends both ways...

Re: Wording on envelope ettiquette........
You know when people tell you to do what you are comfortable with because most people won't notice. Well I would like to say that in my opinion this IS something that people will notice. It is that personal, handwritten touch that tells people exactly who the invite is intended for. If they are tacky enough to ignore it - as we all have seen children at weddings who were not invited - at least no one can say they didn't know or weren't sure. In recent months we received three wedding invitations and only one had the inner envelope written on. Everyone noticed the difference.

Re: Wording on envelope ettiquette........
I don't know if our envelopes are considered big (I believe they're 9.5'x4.25'), but we put names on the inner envelopes. Then again, we also used tissue paper, which isn't needed.
Like the girls stated, it helps define who exactly is invited to the wedding.
