wording on programs...

wording on programs...

hi girls,

i have two separate issues......

i'd like to somehow acknowledge my grandfather who passed away 2 years ago, along with fh's grandmother and grandfather (both gone since the late 90s). i was thinking that instead of the candles with their pictures, i'd just write something simple on the programs.

i could use a little help with the wording...
'today we hold dear to us the memories of our beloved grandparents, X, x and x............................'

here's the other problem:
both of our paternal grandfathers were deceased before our parents even met, so clearly, neither one of us knew them.

is it bad to acknowledge only those we knew and loved?

I think it'd be perfectly ok to only acknowledge the grandparents you knew and loved.

I have a really nice poem that my brother put on the back of his programs to honor our mom. It can be used for anyone though.

Here it is:

In Our Heart

We thought of you with love today.
But that is nothing new.
We thought about you yesterday.
And the days before that too.
We think of you in silence.
We often speak your name.
Now all we have is memories.
And your picture in a frame.
Your memory is our keep sake.
With which we'll never part.
God has you in his keeping.
We have you in our heart.

Re: wording on programs...

Perhaps you could word it like this in your program:

As we share our love with you today, our family and friends, we wish to acknowledge and ask you to remember along with us those who could not be here today but who are with us in our hearts always:

loving grandmothers Ruth, 'Nana' Florence, and Alice
honored grandfather Murray

The poem is really nice too. It's hard to know who to mention and who not to, but those people who were a part of your life are probably most understandable. Are you going to mention any of them during your service?

We also used this poem to honor both our dads. I do have a sister who passed away many, many years ago but I did not mention her because I didn't know her.
You don't have to mention everyone in your program. Just the ones who meant a lot to you.

right... i think mentioning only those who meant something to us is most appropriate. i'd be very surprised if either dad took offense to not acknowledging his father.

we're not mentioning anyone during the ceremony... my grandparents were together 60 years, and my grandmother is (understandably) still very upset, so i think anything more than a nod in the program would only cause her more pain. don't think she would understand the 'spirit' of the whole thing (kinda old school).

i like your option, too, sandra... we'll see how much room i have on the program!!! LOL

thanks for your help, girls.
