Words of Wisdom
So every day my father tries to impart some words of wisdom on me during breakfast, and today's I thought might be helpful to everyone here, so I just wanted to share, since I know that we're all under such wedding-stress amongst other kinds as well.
'There was a wise old man who lived on the top of a mountain, who had the answers to everything and knew the meaning of life.
There was a young girl who had the weight of the world on her shoulders, and more stress than she knew what to do with. She felt like she had to do everything herself for everybody, or else it wouldn't get done. Finally, one day she couldn't take it anymore, so she went up the mountain to see the old man. She said to him:
Master, I feel as if the weight of the world is on my shoulders. Please teach me how to have peace of mind and to free myself of this stress.
The old man said to her,
I will show you how to do this, if you can solve this riddle, you will be freed of your worries.
He pulled out a long necked bottle, with a duck inside. He told her that she must get the duck out of the bottle, but there are two rules: she cannot break the bottle, and she cannot hurt the duck.
So the girl took the bottle, and went back down the mountain. For months, she was obsessed with the duck in the bottle, but could not get him out. She went back up the mountain, and said to the old man:
Master, I've tried everything, and I cannot figure out how to get the duck out of the bottle. I have to break the bottle.
He told her, no, you cannot break the bottle, those are the rules. Go back down, and try again.
So she went back down the mountain, and labored for many more months. Finally, the answer became clear, and she said, ahh, I know!
She triumphantly went back up the mountain, and upon seeing the old man, handed him the bottle, and said:
Master, it's not my bottle. It's not my duck. It's not my problem.'
So girls, when you feel like the weight of the world is on your shoulders, and everybody keeps piling more and more things on you to do, just give a quick quack to yourself, and remember: it's not my duck, and it's not my problem!
