Anyones job cutting people? Im a NYC board of ed teacher and Im really scared about all the job cuts that are coming. What would I do if they cut me? Im so scared and upset.

I work for a division of a state and they froze our wages and are cutting back on administrative staff but are not currently laying off my position. I am still scared though because I am sure that can change any day.

My company is cutting jobs left and right but are doing it by seniority so I am truthfully not worried because they would have to eliminated almost my entire departmant to get rid of me sonce I am the 4th highest in my department. Plus we keep the store in tip top shape since we are the Visual Department

It's a awful and scary time...thankfully I'm in a union and in the healthcare field so I'm pretty safe...but FH got laid off a month ago

Every week, they seem to let go of two more people. It scares me to death. But I have a plan B, so I'm ready incase I get the ax. But regardless, this is a SCARY time. I will keep my fingers crossed for everyone.

I work for NYC DOE and this is my 3rd year..I hope when they actually do the cuts...they will consider me a fourth year teacher..please pray!

yeah.. its scary.
Luckily i'm with a non-profit and our grant was already approved to continue until Dec 09'. But i'm going back to school anyway in Sept.
FH should be secure (knock on wood). He is a manager and the other manager just got fired (not cuz of the economy which is good i guess) so he should be ok.
It's sad when u gotta think like that. Another persons misfortune is your fortune. ugh.. terrible

We're (my company) is doing well... so thankfully I have nothing to worry about. FH graduates with a BS in May of 2009 and has already started looking for a better job. We're trying to plan ahead for the wedding.

I used to work in the corporate office at Steve & Barry's....yes the store that sold everything for under $20 but still went bankrupt. Luckily I got this past October before they closed up shop. Friday was their last day and they locked the doors for good. I have a lot of friends out of a job right now.
When I left in October, I went into the social service field (following my education) so I should be pretty safe for now.
FH was laid off in November, and just started his new job today.

My job responsibilities may change. I think the worst case senario is that I'll be split between two buildings. However, my FH came off of a 4 week furlough (Local 3 Electrician), went to work for 2 weeks and was put on another 5 week furlough. His company lost billions of dollars last year and the talk on the street is major layoffs. UGH!!

Unfortunately, I work at an investment bank (one of the hard hit ones). I just hope everyday that no more layoffs will be announced. They already laid off about 30% of the employees there in the last 2 years

FH and I are both teacher upstate (Rochester) and we are hearing about tons of cuts!! It is so scary! We only have another year before we are tenured!ahh... I was told i would not be cut because I am a math teacher... but I don't know about FH. :(

Yeah, I worry sometimes about if they are gonna close stores, I know they would never close mine, but they are already saying we started off fiscal 2009 on a bad foot. After one day they are scrambling already...

Weare always worried at work being in Real Estate and the current market. They let go of some upper managment.
FH on the other hand got laid off and cant find anything yet
