Work vent! Are they serious?? I'm so pissed!!!

So I have caught my death. I have the worse flu of my entire life. Saturday it hit me and yesterday and today were so bad I could barely get my head off the pillow. When FH realized I had a fever this morning, he took me to the doctor. The doctor told me I have an ear infection, sinus infection and my throat looks red and my lungs sound wizzy.

So around 3 pm, I was napping when FH woke me up to a text from work asking me if i finished a project. I was like How could i finish it when I'm home sick. Than they said and got snippy 'well everyone has there own job to do...' and than I snapped back 'listen, I can barely get my head off the pillow. Its not like I intended on getting sick.' So Fh says he thinks that it would be best for my health to stay in bed one more day. But the project is due tomorrow. I could work from home, but I thought sick days were just that SICK DAYS> I feel better enough to type here on the boards, but when I get up I'm dizzy.

What do I do. I really really just want to sleep and rest... and my job is not understanding. I don't want to leave anyone with my job to do and if i work from home, I want to be credited for it. Because I am so tired of this crap. I'm sick..its not my favorite thing to be either. I barely have a voice.

Can i get fired for being sick? and If I get scolded for being sick than that can be a issue right? I think when I go back i think I'm going to go the higherups and making a point about this. Now I've had it. And I am so pissed.

Yeah that's not right. You can't be fired for being sick. I think you should definitely put yourself first and take another day to rest. You shouldn't have to do work from home when you are that sick. I would definitely talk to the higher ups when you get back. Feel better!

I so agree! They can not fired you for being sick

New York is an 'at will' state. They can fire you for any time for ALMOST any reason.

I would get the doctors note... that gives you more ground to stand on... HOWEVER I don't think they want you walking around the office infecting everyone else, and if you HAVE the sick time they have to let you use it... deadline or no deadline.

That depends on the company. At my company, maybe b/c we're a big corporate firm, but it takes A LOT to fire someone. Also, if you have the sick days, vacation days, they can't fire you for taking them.

Depends on your workplace environment but like everyone else suggested, a doctor's note will help you cover yourself.

Is there anyway you can offer to do any work from your home computer? I always end up getting killed at work while I'm sick and end up working from my bed....
