WORK VENT...GRRRR....

WORK VENT...GRRRR....

Anyone else in the situation where they have worked for a company for a number of years and all the newbies who are coming on make more than you!?!?!?!

I'm in HR, so I see salaries and I had to run a report and noticed that 3 of the new folks are making between $2000-$5000 more than me!! I've been here 6 years!!! AND I have a master's (which 2 of them do not) AND more overall experience in my field. AND I report to the SVP, while they report to Directors.

I can't really say anything to my boss, since I'm not supposed to comment on what I see when running confidential reports, but it's really not inspiring me to do any above and beyond work.

Maybe you can put together a list of things you do and ask for a raise. If you can show that you go up and beyond the call of duty I am sure they can throw you some bucks.

Ignorance is bliss

I am in a similar situation.

I did use my knowledge once to get a bigger raise - the person I compared my salary to was a new hire that was supposed to take over a bunch of my old responsibilities and very reluctantly did and not well. She had about 15 years experience on me for part or her job description but I pointed out that I did do her entire job plus my current one, better and I make significantly less so my salary was adjusted.

lorsin, you know i am in HR too and i am feeling the SAME way as you right now - and I brought it up to my boss!! I told him, how come coordinators coming in as newbies are making a couple of $k more than me? He said 'well you must have started at a lower rate than them plus you are considered a 'back office' function. Thanks. Funny how the HR people who are the backbone of the company always get the short end of the stick.
