Work vs. School vs. FH- HELP!! RP from 06

Okay, so I am trying to balance school with work with planningthis wedding with FH- and I am going crazy!!

I want to finish school because I am 26 and don't even have my bachelor's degree yet- I took several years off to pursue a career in a different field.

I want to work to make $$ for our house and the wedding- AND so I am not totally dependent on FH.

But all of this is making me crazy, and FH has NOT been sympathetic- this weekend he made me cry 2x: once said that my little cousins are all graduating before me and once asked why don't I work more to make some $$...HELLO!!! Obviously I know my cousins are graduating- and I don't feel great about it, AND I WOULD LOVE TO WORK MORE BUT I HAVE FINALS

So I am thinking of cutting down my hours at work to maintain some sanity - and a decent GPA- but then I will be making MUCH less $$

WHAT SHOULD I DO??

First, I’m sorry that your FH made you cry like that.

It sounds to me like you’re burning the candle at both ends. So IMO, you need to slow down. Thankfully your wedding is not for a while still.

Is there a reason why your FH is taunting you about your cousins and school?

we were talking about two of my cousins' upcoming graduations- he says he didn't realize that i would be so sensitive about it- I told him he really needs to think more before speaking- and consider my feelings more too

yea, I know what you mean. I have definitely been much more sensitive since I started the wedding planning. When I look back to when I first got engaged (only 2 1/2 months ago) to where I am now, it's ridiculous! my wedding has taken on a life of it's own!

I'm glad you talked about it with your FH though. when will you finish school?

Hang in there! The semester is almost over (I'm holding out for it too!). You shouldn't feel bad about going back to school and not having your bachelors degree at 26. Lots of people go back to school later after trying out a career. If you are not doing school work over the summer, you can alway take on more hours and make some extra $$$ then. How many years do you have left?

FH just doesnt understand because he has never been in your shoes working, going to school and planning a wedding. Planning a NY wedding is a job in itself! I know its hard but dont let what he says get to you. I am a mom, student, teacher and trying to plan this wedding. I even took off of work today b/c I am just too stressed to deal!

If you ever want to vent FM me. I know how you feel. Do men think these weddings plan themselves?

I know exactly what you're going through! I am also going to school (full-time) while working full-time AND I'm the mother of two teenagers!
It is all very stressful and it was mean of FH to tease you like that, but take heart, you're 26 and don't have your Bachelors, well I'll be 40 next month and not scheduled to graduate until 2007! Don't let the age bother you, just congratulate yourself for doing it.
School should come first and if you have to cut down on your work hours for a while then do so. Just remember what the future holds for you - it'll be worth it!!

Girls, thank you so much- I have tears in my eyes because y ou guys really understand what it is like

I'll be done with school in a year and a half-

I am going in tonight and telling my boss I can't work weekends anymore- i would rather have a normal life than the little extra money I bring in.

Im graduating this month with my BS and trust me there have been plenty of 'older' adults that are going back to pursue their undergrad degrees, so dont feel stupid. I think its awesome that people are out there going back to actually get their degrees.

I think it wasnt nice, of what your FH had said, but it doesnt seem that it was intentional. Guys just dont think to often before saying things. I know how hard it is with trying to juggle school and work and maintain a good gpa. You just need to realize that you need to leave a little time for yourself here and there for a breather, even if that means putting your planning on the backburner for a week or so.

I feel your pain. I am in grad school now but I have NO career. So after I finish this Masters, i still gotta go back to school and get another degree. I totally know where you are coming from. You don't wanna compare yourself to other people but you just cannot help it. Then when somebody says, 'Oh but look at so-and-so, they did this and that and is making more money than you'. F uck so-and-so. It hurts when you think about it. Like where did I go wrong. But you did not go wrong anywhere. You just took another road. I feel like my life is crazy right now too. Believe me, there are people in worse situations who would kill to have only a year and a half left to get their BA. We have to support each other.

Sometimes I think FH things I'm crazy for always being so oversensitive and stressed! It so nice to hear that you girls all feel the same way! Since the planning began I can't juggle everything. Work, planning, looking for new jobs, finding a new school to get my grad. degree in ( I'm moving) getting a home, furn. I jsut feel like everything has to be done before my wedding. I can't handle it all and often find myself snapping at people and just feeling totally overwhelmed.
I'm sorry that fh made you cry. Sometimes they just don't think before they speak. If cutting down on work will help you stay sane then I say do it! You still have some time before your wedding to save. All I can say is I can't wait till my planning and moving and numerous other things are done!!!!!!

Men just dont get it I agree though sounds like your buring the candle at both ends. I am 32yrs. old and Im still trying to get my Assoc. in Nursing. I've been going to school since 93'. I have kids from 15-1yrs. old so it's been hard trying to get through and pay bills. So after my second to last was born who is now 3yrs. I stopped working because daycare wasnt an option at the time and deceided to try school yet again. Now I go to school fulltime and both babies are in daycare but we live in my FIL's basement and for almost 6months I havent spoken to either of them. So I wouldnt suggest not working at all if you can get away with it but I would definetly cut back. School will be over before you know it and at 26yrs. old you have plenty of time to save for a house which will probably come eaiser for you once you have a degree and are able to make more$$$. How much time do you have left? Good Luck and the Best of Wishes for you
