so is anyone else feel worried about picking a vendor? the photographer is sooo important to me (as i know it is to almost every bride!) that i'm a little nervous to pick one b/c i want to just looove their work and feel confident the pics will be beautiful. i don't have any appointments set up just yet b/c FH's schedule is so busy i need get his whole work, grad school, & coaching schedules before i can make any appointments
if you booked your photographer already can you tell me what it was that made you pick them?
when you were shopping around for photographers did you look at a photographer's work and just know immediately whether you like them or not? TIA!

Re: worried...photographer
In my experience, I was originally booking a 2010 wedding, so in 2009, I actually only went to one vendor, the Wedding Plaza. They offered a really good video/photo/dj package for 6k. I liked the work they showed me, though I had nothing to compare it to. I booked them on the spot, but only paid half of the deposit ($150).
Since then, once the 2010ers started getting married, I saw more and more work that I thought was phenomenal! Some of the better ones were Patken, Duet, and a few other big LIW names...some not so big. The point is, shop around. Take your time. View their work and do comparisons. Besides the RH, this will probably be your biggest expense and in this cas, you really are looking for perfection.
I'm shopping now...

Re: worried...photographer
i met with 2 photographers both came recommended by people
1st::: I met with Patken. Office was gorgeous, their website was great. They take artistic photos, which I wanted, and they offered a lot in their package.
2nd:: I met with Duet. The minute I walked in the door, I felt uncomfortable. FM me if u want more info. Their package was cheaper but offered less. I knew from sitting there I def wanted to go with Patken
Made an appt to meet back up at patken & booked. I had plenty of other questions that I emailed Lisa after booking and she wrote me back everytime within hours. Very friendly. Had our epic session with them in their other office. Pics were good & fun!
Good Luck! To me personally, the photo/videography is the most important in the whole wedding day. I knew I was going to spend most of our money in this particular vendor.

Re: worried...photographer
I did a lot of online research first. I looked at other brides and who they were using and then checked out their engagement photos and wedding photos. I made a list of the three that I liked the most and ranked them. I set up my first appointment with Thomas Paul and booked on the spot. His style was exactly how I envisioned my pictures to look like. Try to find the style you want and then you will know which one is right for you. If you keep coming back to the same pictures or similar pictures find out which photographers they are and make an appointment
Good Luck!

Re: worried...photographer
I am extremely worried about the photos. I heard a horror story from a friend and it freaked me out. She LOVED her engagement photos, but they switched the photographer on the day of the wedding and the photo's came out horrible! So now, I am just so worried about it. I am looking around, but how do you NOT worry about that happening?

Re: worried...photographer
I'm super nervous about this one too. I want really artistic photos, something that looks vintage and more like a magazine spread then cheese wedding photos. I think its just a matter of tons of research and also finding someone you are super comfortable with. I've been looking on all of the wedding blogs like stylemepretty and once wed. they have tons of good resources on those sites.

Re: worried...photographer
I met with 3. I chose the one with the in the middle price.
The cheapest one gave me the feeling of 'i will get what I pay for'. None of there photos popped out to me AND the couple running the company completely turned my off.
The more expensive one, just seemed to expensive and I really didn't want to burn a hole in my pocket - plus, again, I didn't get that 'you seem easy to work with vibe'...
The the middle guy, totally awesome, the ONLY one that offered to come to my home and show me albums upon albums of stuff. A friend recommended him to me and I was sooo happy. We email each other all the time.
He moved to canada though, his wife got transferred, so I am not sure if he is taking on new clients in the USA, I should ask him. I'll fm you his website.

Re: worried...photographer
When I went to the first photographer I fell in love with his work, honesty, and the way he ran his business. After that I went to 3 others and nothing compared in terms of their work and the way they ran their appointment. Even though the 1st was the most expensive I had to book with them!

Re: worried...photographer
I met with four or five photographers and did a good amount of research online. Ultimately, I wanted someone who I felt comfortable with and who's style was something that matched me and FH's. I didn't want just sentimental and romantic pictures, I want pictures capturing the laughs and funny moments too. When I met with Twelfth Night, I felt like everything fit. Dom was great to meet with, made me feel totally comfortable, and so we went with him and Vicki to shoot our wedding. They've both been great to answer any questions we have too so it makes the whole process a lot easier!

Re: worried...photographer
Do you have information on the Wedding Plaza, I know you said you were going to book there? Just curious because I was thinking about the package!
As for the photographer, AH i think its sooo hard to pick everything esp for us girls like me who cant make a decision of our life depended on it ha. I had the HARDEST time finding a reception hall so i can just imagine how everything else is going to be! I know i should be starting everything but who has time lol!

Re: worried...photographer
this was the most important vendor for me too. i spent a long time researching online - i would look through the reviews section and jot down any photographers whose work stood out to me...lots of google searches haha
take your time looking at their work before booking meetings. i wound up only meeting with 2 photographers before making my final decision since i had done most of the legwork before.
there's one other that does really edgy stuff, but i can't think of his name...another LIW bride (i think an '09 girl) used him so i need to search through the reviews
