Worst thing to happen at a wedding...

I met this girl who is a friend of a friend last weekend. She told me the most horrifying story...she got married in Philadelphia last year right on the water and in the middle of her reception there was a power outage!!!!!!!! The lights and electricity were off for an hour!!!!

Can you imagine??

She said that all her girfriends started singing songs at the top of their lungs to try and take the focus off of the fact that there was no music.

Anyway, once the power came back on her reception was extended an extra hour.....thank god....I think I would die if something like that happens at my wedding. Poor girl!

Not the worst by any stretch. Been to two weddings where a family member died at the wedding.

That is the worst.

ETA: One was the father of the bride. He died while dancing up a storm on the dance floor.

well obviously any 'worst' story can be topped....it's no the WORST, but it's bad.

Ya know, a power outage isn't the worst thing. Candlelight is so romantic and beautiful. That's not to say I would be jumping for joy if it happened at my wedding, but I wouldn't let it bother me.

Now, I saw on some TV program that in Russia there is a tradition of the newlyweds and the BP walking across a bridge after exchanging vows, and the foot bridge collapsed with everyone on it. That would definitely ruin my wedding. Just the thought of everyone being soaking wet.

Yep, also the parents were divorced and the mother of the bride commented that she wished him dead that morning. She got her wish. This was a nasty divorce fur sure.

The bride was inconsolable.

Heres a story...

My friends sisters wedding:

The best man was about to make the toast. The bride decided to step down from the dais.. (The dais had 2 steps)

Her dress got caught under her chair.. she fell down & broke her leg.. She spent the rest of her reception in the emergancy room. Needless to say... her honeymoon was cancelled.

I couldn't make this up if I tired. Poor girl

I will never forget that night. My wedding was 4 months after hers and all I could think of is what if my dad died...My DH told me not to think about it but all I could do is cry for days after thinking about how horrible that was..

Sorry to bring everyone down..just brought back all the memories of that day.

On a good note-her and her father had done their dance at the beginning of the reception. At least she has that.

The videographer was such an a-hole. He was wondering whether they were going to cut the cake. Dude-the party is over!

good point - i wonder how the older people reacted - probably not well.

My roommate from college got married about 3 years ago on Block Island as Hurrican Kyle was passing through. The ceremony and reception were supposed to be outside but the tents flew in the ocean. The ferries were cancelled- so no dj and a lot of missing guests. They rented a small boat to go get the flowers and cake. They lost a bouquet in the water and someone dropped the cake bottom.

They wound up having the wedding crammed inside the Sulivan House living room. The guests hummed Here comes the bride as the wind howled outside. It was really actually sweet. Everyone had to pull together to make the wedding happen. It was actually the total opposite of what hte wedding was supposed to be but more special b/c the guests made it happen.

She actually wrote to Modern Bride and won some contest.

OMG Blu-ize, I'd have to agree that that would be the worst!! Altho having a power outage would really s*uck too!!

Darlene, I remember seeing that too, it was Wild Weddings on TLC. And I thought the same thing, how awful to have everyone soaking wet!!
