Worst thing to happen at a wedding...

My roommate from college got married about 3 years ago on Block Island as Hurrican Kyle was passing through. The ceremony and reception were supposed to be outside but the tents flew in the ocean. The ferries were cancelled- so no dj and a lot of missing guests. They rented a small boat to go get the flowers and cake. They lost a bouquet in the water and someone dropped the cake bottom.

They wound up having the wedding crammed inside the Sulivan House living room. The guests hummed Here comes the bride as the wind howled outside. It was really actually sweet. Everyone had to pull together to make the wedding happen. It was actually the total opposite of what hte wedding was supposed to be but more special b/c the guests made it happen.

She actually wrote to Modern Bride and won some contest.

Wow... That is like a scene out of a movie!

I was at an installation dinner at Windows on the Lake and the power went off for a good while. There was no back up. The music went off, evreything was pitch dark.

Definitely something you DON't want to happen, but also not the worst thing that could happen.

Not the worst by any stretch. Been to two weddings where a family member died at the wedding.

That is the worst.

ETA: One was the father of the bride. He died while dancing up a storm on the dance floor.

Yep, also the parents were divorced and the mother of the bride commented that she wished him dead that morning. She got her wish. This was a nasty divorce fur sure.

The bride was inconsolable.

I know someone who was getting hitched and the brides dad from the wedding before her dies at the party-she has to wait until they could figure out where to go and what to do-her wedding was several hours late and she was a mess thinking about the other bride

Wow I thought I heard horror stories until I read these...wow! Sad stuff!

Worst I had heard was a band member having a heart attack while performing....this one was recent.

Another was cops showing up b/c 2 men got into a racial argument in the men's room and a fight broke out....we tried to keep it from the poor bride but she heard about it when she got home from her HM. This all went down while they were cutting their cake.

And - this freaks me out but someone I know was at a wedding at....I don't think I should post the name of the place here...FM me if you want to know.....anyway - huge gigantic RATS ran across the dance floor!!!!!!! I would have died! The place has a body of water out back. Water = RATS!

Just when I thought I didn't have anything else to worry about, now I am sitting here thinking about all the old people we have coming and who could go down on our dance floor!!! Seriously, I feel terrible for that birde. I would be devastated

FH sister got married on a really hot august night in northern NJ...there were lightening storms the entire evening...it actually looked cool because the room had panoramic windows...anyway we find out the next day that all of the neighboring communities had power outages that night...needless to say she was very lucky!

I agree that these are all very awful - when you expect your perfect day to go a certain way and something else happens... it would suck.

What really gets me worked up are all these stories about missing or killed grooms. I can't imagine that the day you are so excited in your mind about spending your life with this man and your future together gets shattered because he disappears is an awful thought.

So as long as he is there every moment... I'm good to go.

I was at a wedding once in November in Virginia. There were thunderstorms during the ceremony. When we were heading down the hall from the ceremony to cocktail hour the power went out. And it never came back on!!! It gets worse.

We were making the best of the situation when 2 hours passed and authorities came in to shut us down in the darkness. Come to find out it was a tornado that hit. Then the cold front passed and the rain changed over to ice and snow. The county was declaring a state of emergency and everyone was sent home immediately.

At least no one died.
