FH and I were close to committing to Aruba for our HM. My main concern, however is the casinos. We both want nightlife, and Aruba has a lot, although he's not a bar and club person at all.
We do go gambling from time to time, but every so often, he'll start losing and then spend more money gambling trying to win it back. Then when he loses, he gets in a pissy mood.
I'm worried about this happening on our HM, since there's no way in hell he will not gamble if there are casinos available. When I brought this up to him, he got offended, but he doesn't see it the way I do. And not to mention having all that extra money after the wedding does not help my thoughts at all!!!
Am I wrong for wanting to rule out Aruba completely for this reason? I had some choices in Barbados as well, and can easily book that, but we have heard a lot of great things about Aruba!!

Re: Would I be wrong for this???
If I was worried about my FH gambling, I would feel exactly the same way. I would look into another location.

I know, my only consolation is that if we did gamble, I would be there with him, and although when I get pissed about him spending more money, I walk away from him.
However, all I would have to say is that I want to consummate the marriage some more, and hopefully that would get him away from the tables!!

What if you make an account SPECIFFICALLY for honeymoon spending.. that way he cant use the extra money? DH and I did that when we went on our HM, and put very little in it for a 'cushion'.. and had some cash on us we previously took out.. we had our 'play' money and we set that us WAAY before our wedding...
Also, you can research the place you are going and see if that hotel does any excursions or snorkeling or stuff like that... You may wanna set up a schedule of sorts and say 'ok.. sunday night we will gamble for 2-4 hours and then go catch dinner.. ' and explain that you dont want to spend ur HM in a casino, otherwise you woulda went to Mohegan?

Great ideas. FH and I have two accounts as well. One for the wedding/honeymoon and oen for our nest egg. He explained to me that not all of the money we save should go towards the wedding in the event that one of us loses our jobs, gets hurt, needs a car repair... etc. I set aside a certain amount of money for general 'savings' each month and that amount gets divided into two accounts. Just make an account for 'fun money' and you'd be set.

I've been to Aruba many times and its just beautiful. Its perfect for HM....... just like the other girls said, you should set up activities, and make time for the casino at least one night out of the week.....this way it will make the both of you happy .

I agree...plus in Aruba the casinos are not like say in Vegas. They are very strict and much smaller...

I would be worried too. We are going on a cruise in Hawaii and they have a casino, and I am so worried about that. I will give FH a certain amount of money that he can spend (he is the SAME way as your FH). Also, I will try to keep him occupied with other things

Re: Would I be wrong for this???
We just got back from Aruba & my situation is opposite..we're both gamblers, but I always lose I feel as if I just go there to make a donation. Thank God that after 2 weeks we were pretty much even, because DH won a lot.I lost. You have to stick to a budget, take only a set amount of $$ every night with you,not a penny more and be prepared to part with it...if you win,all the better. Believe me,after being on the beach all day, doing activities, being in the hot sun it really tires you out. Go to the Casino AFTER dinner (most restaurants close by either 10:30-11:00) and gamble. That way you're kinda tired already and if you're not really feeling Lady Luck then just go back to the hotel and have your own private party
We have a running joke in my family, this is a true story. A few years back my moms friend Josephine went to Aruba for a week with her hubby, they came back whiter than they left! NO TAN !!! Why? because they were in the Crystal Casino all day/night which BTW is open 24 hours!! So now everytime she goes back (they go every year) we always hound her weeks before 'Hey Josephine, did you buy suntan lotion for your trip?' HaHa..yeah,we're a corny bunch.
