Would this be wrong to do????

I am putting a lot of effort into picking certain songs I want played at my wedding. I know in the past I have heard so much of DJ's not playing anything the bride and groom requested. So, with that said , would it be wrong to say to the DJ, when we meet with him before the wedding, that this is a list of songs we definitley want played and if you do a good job playing them all we will be sure to be generous with your tip. Do you think that would be ok to say to them? I really want a bunch of songs played. I figure if I say that to them and give them time, they will be able to download them all in plenty of time and would have no reason not to have them. I figure telling them they would get a very generous tip would sort of motivate them. What do you think??? Thanks!!!!

I would not flat out tell them that their tip would be better if they play your entire list. When you sign the contract, make sure that you make them aware that you want the follwing songs played throughout your wedding. If they play them, great...if not...then no tip. Ask them when you talk to them if they are open to play lists...some DJ's prefer a list of songs you want to hear and others don't want them at all. A few weeks before the wedding you can confirm that they have the songs you want...but don't tell them that their tip depends on it. They might get spiteful and screw up your wedding.

You have to tip the DJ???? Gosh, I am so clueless on this tipping stuff!!

I don't think you should hire someone that you know/suspect may not give you the service you want for the price you are already paying. Why should you have to offer $$$ above what you are already paying in order to get what you are paying for in the first place? I don't get that. I know you can't predict what the DJ will or won't do but I plan on telling the DJ I hire 'Look, if you aren't going to do what we're asking, you don't get paid. Period'....or something to that effect

You could always grease his palm by giving him SOME of the tip while handing him the play list and the rest later. Kind of like handing the valet guy the money BEFORE he parks, so you know he takes good care of your car (FH does this and always gets a spot in front so he can see if when he comes out of the place

Yeah, I agree - I wouldn't say that to them - but do stress when you sign the contract that there are certain things you want. AND - the day of, early on, talk to the DJ and make sure you have another copy of the list in case he doesn't have it. Stress again how important it is. We were asked specifically to give a list - which we did and there were only maybe 10 songs. Almost none of them were played. We didn't change our tip - but I kind of wish we had.

IMO I would not use a DJ who is going to play songs you don't want played. If they play one song that day you don't like, speak with him before he continues. I am not going to give them a complete list. It's their job to determine what songs are liked by the crowd. I also would not tip prior. Tehy have not performed the service....but the tip sure will be determined by the service performed!!!
