feel obligated to ask a friend to be in your bridal party if you had a spot in hers? My friendship with this girl just isnt what it used to be. We never see each other anymore and never speak on the phone. Lately our only means of staying in touch is texting and thats how its been for over a year now. Although I was honored to be a bm in her bp, I am just not sure if I belonged there and vice versa because the friendship just feels so strained to me. Please tell me what you think.

Re: Would you...
def know how you feel...
i say NO ! because it would not be sincere and it will be forced..... at least for me, my expressions read right off my face.. lol so theres no hiding it for me.
the worst thing that you can do is making yourself uncomfortable during your wedding planning and wedding day...

Re: Would you...
never feel obligated to have someone in your BP. A BM or any member of the wedding party for that matter, should not be chosen out of obligation. They should be chosen solely on the fact that you want them to stand up for you on your wedding day.

Re: Would you...
I was in the same situation. FH's friend is in our wedding party & his wife [who will not be in my wedding party] had both of us in theirs but mine & her relationship isnt as close as we were for her wedding so I refused to put her in mine. But her husband [FH's friend] will be in ours.

Any idea how she took that?

You should never let anyone pressure you, or allow yourself to feel pressured to put anyone in your bp just because you were in theirs. It's suuuuuch a hard situation, but if your friendship has changed, and you can't see yourself asking her or her being a great, supportive role in your bp, then don't ask. The last thing you want to do is have regrets like that on your wedding day. Good luck!

If you really don't want her to be a BM, I would say No.

I'm in a friend's bridal party, but I didn't ask her to be in mine. It's not because I'm not close with her, but rather because we're keeping our bp limited. I would have preferred to have only MOH and BM. It was really FH that forced me to up the number to 3 on each side. I definitely don't feel obligated and like I said we are good friends.

Re: Would you...
Things change and you shouldn't feel obligated to have her if the friendship isn't what it used to be. I had the same problem and I choose not to have her in mine. She was fine with it!! Do what feels right to you, that's all that matters

Re: Would you...
FH and I put a 4 year rule on this exact issue--he was in a bridal party in 2005, we are not having the guy in our wedding party as he is no longer a good friend.
Regardless of number of years since her wedding, she may even feel uncomfortable if she was in your wedding party (as probably doesn't know the other girls as well) and it may be a good thing for both of you to just invite her as a guest and keep wedding party to close friends and family. She should understand.

I asked someone I didn't want to because I was in hers. Same reason as you. I felt it was the right thing to do.
