I would. What do you have to lose?

Why not?!! Especially for a position internal to your current company. Go for it.

i've done it many times, but i rarely get called back and if i do go on an interview i've never gotten the job. that said, it might be easier since it's w/in your company and they can talk to your supervisor and stuff. good luck!

Definitely...I wouldn't have landed half the jobs I have if I hadn't. GO for it!

If you think it is the right opp for you- what do you have to lose - unless you think another more applicable opening will be there for the same company and you don't want to look like you are applying for anything they have (I get some of thsoe people replying to our ads). I know typically when I review resumes, I look to see if the person is meets the criteria and then for content because when I post job listings I can get 1000's of responses and you have to limit them somehow.

In your cover letter you need to tie in why you are the right candidate or something to prove why you should be considered.

I did! I am a litigator but in a different field of law. I applied for a job where i would be running their NY office- and out of 100 candidates- I got it! I couldn't believe it- but I am SO MUCH HAPPIER! What have you got to lose?? Especially if its within the company. It shows that you are open to new experiences and want to move up.

Definately. The job I have now I did not have the mandatory experience and I got it.

What have you go to loose.

All I needed was an interview to highlight what I do have. It must of worked b/c I got the position.

ETA I also updated my resume to match the job qualifications as closely as I could.

It would depend how off I am with the qualifications. If I would be in completely over my head I wouldn't do it since I would be really struggling from day one. If I have the basics I would give it a try.

Since this is an internal position within your company, I am sure your work ethics and abilities are more apparent and they might be more open to giving you a shot.

Even if you think you can 'remotely' do the job... you should definitely apply.

There is always a chance that you can go for the interview... they don't give you the job... but they either set you up with an interview for a different position in the company (something more for your qualifications)... or give you an offer on a different job right there.

I look at it this way - if you think you can do the job then why not? They will probably look at those who fall into their requirements first - but if noone does or they don't find someone they like - they might be willing to train if you they like you or think you can do the job. You have NOTHING to lose - worst case is they look at it and laugh and you never hear from them

God’s yes!

If I had never applied for jobs I wasn’t qualified for I wouldn’t have the job I have now.

I don’t really think I’ve ever been qualified for any job I’ve had in the Insurance Industry over the past 8 years.

Namely they always ask for an educated person, which I’m not
They ask for 2 years experience in that field, which I don’t have

I basically figure what’s the worst they can say? No? Oddly enough, I was OVER qualified for this job I have now. Even though I am uneducated and don’t have the experience in commercial broking. Go figure. I nearly DIDN’T get this job!!

I guess they put qualifications up to ‘weed’ through, but some places really do hire based on merit and interviews. Thank god the place I work now does!

I wouldn't, but only because I know in my organization (state job) they throw away any resumes that don't meet the minimum qualifications. Ask around and see what the policy is like in your company, or if there is someone already in mind for the position....It may be difficult if you don't get called, but your boss hears you applied for another position....
