Would you be annoyed?

Would you be annoyed?

If I'm wrong, feel free to tell me

I have been asked to go on a business trip the first weekend in November. I'd have to fly out Saturday morning and return probably on Monday unless the client needs me there longer. There are three people are on the team that handles this client. The lead on the account will be 8 mos pregnant at this point, so she can't go, which is fine. The other girl who was supposed to go, said she can't becuase 'her religious beliefs don't allow her to work on Sunday', Sunday is the main day we need to support this client, so she can't go.

While I have no problem being a team player, I kinda see this as a poor excuse for me to have to give up my weekend. i'm the first one willing to help out if the reason is legit, like prior plans that you can't change, or if it were a religious holiday, then i could understand.

I don't plan on doing anything about it, just wanted some feedback. if I'm wrong, help me understand why.

I think you have a right to be annoyed, but her religious beliefs are legitimate, not just holidays. I'd suck it up, be the man and take care of it yourself....then if the client says anything, have him sing YOUR praises to your boss IN WRITING!

Think positive, if everything goes well with the client, you take ALL the credit

I'd be annoyed at the crappy reasoning, but would suck it up since I'd have no choice. But that's not totally fair - what would happen if you had a family event that day or something? And what religion is she that she can't work on Sunday? I never heard of one.

the question is 'Do you actually believe it is because of her religous belief's?'

Because if you know the co-worker and know that she is religious, celebrates her religion often, and won't travel then it looks like the responsibility falls to you , unfortunately.

If you don't think this co-worker is even remotely religious and you think it's an excuse to get out of traveling for work, well then I'd be P'O'd if I were you!

Re: Would you be annoyed?

i think she's mormon, not sure

if i had an event i wouldn't be there

it's not the trip i have a problem with.

i have a problem with the fact that because of her beliefs, i have to give up a weekend with my wife, miss the jet game, and attend a presentation on sunday morning at 7 a.m.

I'd do it just because I love business travel. Expenses paid... eat in nice places for free... gotta love it.

I'd also ask for some comp time since it is over a weekend.

I know - but I meant it in the more general sense. Right now my hubbie is saying - 'please don't let the bye mess them up, please dont let the bye mess them up!'

Can you get a 1/2 price tix for your DW? My old company used to do this . . . Then you too can spend the evenings together!!! Does not hurt to ask.

i'm trying to work this out -- i have to see how long i'll be down there and how much i'll be needed. Sunday, i'll be working all day. If I'm not needed on saturday, and i'm coming home monday, she may come down with me. We'll hang out on Saturday and she can go off by herself on Sunday and we'll come back on Monday

Re: Would you be annoyed?

I think you should definitley look into how much a ticket would be for your wife. You can turn the weekend into a mini vacation. The hotel is already paid for and I'm guessing you have an expense account. Since you only have to work Sunday morning, that would still leave plenty of time for you and your wife to spend some QT.

In answer to your original question, I would probably be annoyed, but unfortunately, it doesn't seem like there's anything you could do about it.
