Would you be bothered if you received a baby gift...

for the baby while you were pregnant? i ask b/c if i were pregnant and someone got me a gift for the baby, i would be so touched. but i gave a gift to someone and i got the 'what is this? i can't wear this? ha ha...it is a little early, don't you think?' response and don't know if i was wrong to give this gift. i don't think i was, i was really trying to show my support and i thought it was a nice gesture, but now i am a bit confused...i would love your input ladies. and for those of you who are jewish and don't have showers before the baby is born...she isn't jewish.

Karissa sent me a gift for that baby and I thought that was sooooooo sweet. This year a lot of the gifts my students gave me were for the baby and I thought that was adorable that they thought about the baby. I wouldn't be upset at all

I am 15 weeks and I got many gifts for the baby so far for xmas. I thought it was some of the best presents I got. But some people are really supersticious.. It is my opinion however, that if something were to happen, it will happen reagardless and it wont be anymore easier on you if have nothing baby related in your life yet. does that make sense?

I got a few gifts for the baby before she was even born, and I wasn't offended at all..

I was offended however when a 'friend' of mine came to my shower, gave me a gift, and when we opened the box at home, it had a card in it that said:

To: 'friend'
Congratulations, Love Pedro...

DH and I looked at each other and said...

'who the F is Pedro??'

She had re-gifted a gift to us from her baby shower months before....

Talk about cheezy....the least she could've done was make sure there wasn't a card inside it before regifting....sheesh

Not that I would want to make you feel bad about giving the gift. I personally would not want gifts for the baby until I was like 8 or 9 months. Just for the simple fact that if God forbid something happened to the baby, now I have all these gifts and no baby. That is too hard to put on a mother to be. I got 2 gift cards from Babies r Us and I was bothered by it but I didn't make the persons feel bad I said thank you and put them away. I said a little prayer that night

My mother's excited to be a Grandmother and has already gotten me a lot of baby clothes. The first thing honestly freaked me out, because I thought, 'what if I miscarry?', but now that I'm further along, I appreciate having my mother help me out so much.

My mother also went out and bought unisex clothing for the new baby because she was sooo excited. Also for Christmas, I didn't know what I wanted so I asked for something off my registry and I got my boppy!

So no...I wouldn't mind getting gifts before the baby was born.

It would depend on how far along I was in my pregnancy. I did not get any baby gifts until I was near the end of my pregnancy. I did get some pregnancy books and calendars and stuff like that. I would not want any clothes for the baby however until I was well after my 6 month...just paranoid I guess. But I would never be angry with anyone...I would just leave the stuff at my moms.

I understand that some moms-2-be might be concerned with superstition, or the 'what-ifs' in life, but I think the thing that would concern me the most is having that loving support from my family & friends.

I think that you're thought was a very NICE gesture, and I think it's crappy that she made you feel bad... because be it as it may, it's like she didn't accept you backing her up during this joyous time in her life.

Honestly, but IMHO, I think it sucks when people lose touch with the point of things - whether it's because of superstition, materialistic, or selfish.

I would never make someone feel bad but personally I did not want any gifts like clothes of such for the baby until I am much further along. I am in my 8th month and still haven't even bought the baby one thing - I was waiting to get to this point...where I felt a little more secure. I did get lots of books or even frames and was fine with that - clothes and some things just kind of freaked me out. I did get some gifts like that but not much and I never said one word about it to the person or anyone. And now I do have a bed full of stuff for the baby...but in the beginning I was very nervous and fearful what if something happened....
